Position Overview and Responsibilities:

This Environmental Specialist I position performs work under the direction of the Environmental Administrator for the Division of Water Resource Management’s Source and Drinking Water Program located in Tallahassee, Florida. This Environmental Specialist I will assist in implementing the State of Florida’s Drinking Water Program by providing technical assistance, training and assisting with developing policy and technical guidance to ensure consistent implementation across the state. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of water quality chemistry principles;
• Knowledge of water quality sampling and analysis procedures;
• Knowledge of sample collection techniques and ability to collect, evaluate, analyze and interpret scientific and technical data;
• Ability to prepare technical reports;
• Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to the regulation of public water systems;
• Ability to work effectively with other state, federal and local employees in a courteous and professional manner;
• Ability to work independently;
• Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments;
• Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology;
• Ability to develop customized GIS applications;
• Ability to effectively use GIS technology to prepare maps and displays;
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;
• Ability to effectively use database systems and other software applications; and
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications:

• At least 4 years of verifiable related experience. Post-secondary degrees may be used as an alternative for the required years of experience on a year-for-year basis. A credential evaluation report from an approved agency must be submitted along with all foreign degrees.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in engineering, environmental science, or one of the natural science
