The Work You Will Do:
This is a professional environmental position in the Siting Coordination Office (SCO) in the Division of Water Resource Management. The position is primarily responsible for coordinating the interagency technical review and processing of power plant and transmission line project applications filed under the Siting Acts.

Your Specific Responsibilities:
This position will serve as the Environmental Specialist for the Siting Coordination Office by:
- Coordinating the review and evaluation of projects under Florida’s Siting Acts including site certifications, modifications, and post-certification amendments.
- Providing technical assistance and guidance to districts and other agencies, prospective applicants, consultants, and the general public on matters related to site certification projects or processes.
- Developing effective working relationship with primary facility contacts as well as District and agency staff to resolve outstanding issues and promoting program statewide consistency.
- Advising direct supervisor and providing suggestions for making final decisions on complex or controversial issues.
- Developing and presenting guidance documents and training presentations of Siting procedures.
- Preparing reports analyzing and describing proposed agency actions regarding impacts and recommendations for denial or approval of site certifications applications;
- Working closely with the Siting program attorney; and
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of biological systems, water quality, water supply, hydrology, air quality, waste management, and land use planning; computer systems and programs.
- Skilled in understanding and applying rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs; and analyzing and interpreting environmental data.
- Ability to solve problems relating to environmental systems; plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments; communicate environmental management information effectively verbally and in writing; maintain confidentiality where appropriate; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; coordinate work efforts of many; be an effective, conscientious, and respectful team member.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the Power Plant Siting statutes and rules and their implementation.
- Experience with the rules and statutes governing the State’s siting and other regulatory programs.
- Experience with GIS, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point.
A 4-year degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, environmental science or one of the natural sciences and 1-year of related professional experience OR 5-years of related professional experience can substitute.
A Valid Driver’s License and occasionally travel.
