The Work You Will Do:

This is intermediate-level work. This is a skilled technical environmental position in the Division of Air Resource Management (DARM) that reports directly to the Environmental Administrator of the Field Operations Section in the Office of Air Monitoring (OAM). 

This position involves experienced level work in the electronic operations and maintenance of air monitoring equipment. This position assures compliance with state and federal regulations and procedures by reviewing and developing specifications, procedures, plans and scientific reports on sophisticated air monitoring and data acquisition equipment and related computer systems; performing technical work in the installation, design and/or modification of electronic equipment; inspecting and repairing air monitoring shelters and equipment; performing troubleshooting techniques to repair instruments and equipment; provides equipment repair training; conducting inventory management to ensure the operational readiness of the ambient air monitoring network; and performing other responsibilities of maintenance, repair and acquisition support specialist. This position ensures a safe work environment for other employees, provides good customer service, and requires a team player with a cooperative attitude.

Pay:

Salary Range Annually $58,069 - $60,069 (Commensurate based on experience)

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Equipment Maintenance: Serves as a lead maintenance, repair and acquisition support specialist. Installs, calibrates, inspects, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, modifies and maintains new and existing air monitoring equipment to meet vendor specifications and state/federal performance standards. Documents and maintains records of work performed to confirm that systems will produce high-quality, legally defensible monitoring data. Create/update checklists and standard operating practices for equipment inspection, testing, repair, maintenance and calibration procedures to meet manufacturer specifications and regulatory requirements. Provides equipment repair training to state-wide air monitoring staff.

Site Setup: Assists in the design and preparation of technical specifications for climate-controlled monitoring shelters, electronic air measurement instrumentation, meteorological monitoring equipment and computerized data acquisition/transmission systems to meet ambient air monitoring needs in accordance with state/federal requirements. Assists with the planning, movement, installation and operational set-up of air monitoring stations (equipment sites) throughout the state. Consults with internal and external air monitoring professionals to obtain an in-depth understanding of site-specific air monitoring requirements and challenges. Recommends to senior management short-term and long-term options for enhancing the ambient monitoring network.

Inventory Management: Ensures new inventory is timely received and properly recorded. Tracks and orders equipment and parts to ensure that the in-house inventories are sufficient to support the operational readiness of the ambient air monitoring network. Responds to field technician inquiries in a timely and professional manner.

Site Repairs: Travels to air monitoring site locations for inspection, maintenance and/or repair. Performs detailed appraisals of the physical and operational conditions of air monitoring stations and equipment. This will require carrying monitoring equipment from the vehicle to the site shelter. Provides training support to statewide air monitoring personnel to ensure consistency throughout Florida’s Primary Quality Assurance Organization.

Backup Site Operator: Serves as a back-up field technician to the Forgotten Coast Territory monitoring stations (Tallahassee area) and performs related work as needed.

Performs or leads other projects as required by the Section Administrator or designee.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the basic principles of electronics and electricity application to air monitoring instrumentation

Knowledge of standard electronic and electrical test equipment

Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of analog and digital electronic instruments and systems

Knowledge of the procedures for troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating and maintaining electronic and electro-mechanical equipment

Knowledge of schematic drawings

Knowledge of operational engineering and scientific concepts, terminology and principles Skilled in the use and care of tools and equipment used to repair, service of air monitoring instruments and systems

Skilled in use of personal computers

Skilled in performing basic math calculations

Skilled in analyzing and interpreting technical data

Skilled in problem solving

Skilled in preparing technical reports and documentation

Skilled in interpreting and using electronic circuit diagrams and mechanical blueprints

Skilled in diagnosing malfunctions in air monitoring instruments and systems

Skilled in testing and the use of test devices to determine options for the repair, maintenance and calibration of air monitoring instruments and systems

Skilled in providing equipment repair training

Skilled in troubleshooting and problem solving instrument malfunctions

Skilled in planning, organizing and coordinating work assignments to manage multiple priorities

Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures

Ability to repair, maintain and calibrate air monitoring instruments and instrument systems

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people having a wide variety of technical and non-technical backgrounds

  • A bachelor’s degree a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering or science field and two years of verifiable related experience; or any combination of post-secondary education or verifiable related experience, as described above, for a total of six years.
