Position Overview and Responsibilities: 

This second level intermediate environmental specialist position will analyze biological and physical data to produce summary reports for determination of patterns and will be responsible for conducting statistical analyses to produce data visualization products that support Aquatic Preserve and Research Reserve management. The incumbent will coordinate closely with other Florida Coastal Management Program (FCMP) staff and both agency staff and external partners engaged in water quality and biological data collection programs.

Tasks will include: 1) Performing statistical analyses focused on investigating the connection between coastal water quality, natural resources and land use;  2) Participating in workgroups and projects to develop data products, data analytics and visualization tools to inform agency decision-makers of the status and trends in natural resources and water quality in Florida’s Aquatic Preserves; 3) Attending professional meetings and workshops representing the FCMP; and 4) Producing reports and quality assurance manuals in coordination with other ORCP and DEP staff.

Other duties will include assisting with activities to support FCMP and ORCP, including providing review and input into Coastal Zone Management (CZM) related planning and reports (e.g., FCMP’s annual meeting; Section 309 Assessment, Strategies, and Implementation; Section 312 program evaluation activities; etc.), and, as time permits, assisting with other high priority ORCP activities.

Snorkeling may be required to perform duties of this position.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to demonstrate high levels of computer literacy and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to input and analyze biological and physical data
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to interact with supervisors, coworkers, and the public in a tactful and courteous manner
  • Ability to be adaptable, flexible, resourceful and to maintain a positive outlook
  • Ability to travel, including single-day and multi-day trips

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must have approval and follow the guidelines of the DEP Underwater Operations Manual.

 

 

Position of Special Trust Requirement:

This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.

$53,580.60
