Your Specific Responsibilities:

 

 

TimeDuties and Responsibilities

This position spends more than 50% of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities. This included communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees' work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and complete timesheets.

The incumbent functions as the Food Hygiene Coordinator for the Leon County Health Department, Division of Environmental Health. Reviews all plans for proposed or remodeled food service establishments ensuring compliance with applicable statutes, administrative codes and local laws. Provides written comments to applicant within the prescribed time frame.

Program Management

      Oversees the daily workload of a team of inspectors including monitoring performance, providing staff training, EARS/DARS, weekly/monthly check-ins, and summary of work and/or deliverable reporting.

 Reviews the inspection, complaint investigation, and monitoring reports for all subordinate staff daily to ensure compliance with the applicable statutes, administrative codes, local ordinances and laws and policies of the Leon County Health Department.

      Accompanies subordinate employees in the field to resolve problems and observe the performance of these employees for the purposes of conducting employee evaluations.

                                  Conduct staff training on environmental health regulations, inspection procedures, and safety protocols.

 Assists in preparing and managing the program budget for all revenue sources.  Address employee concerns and disciplinary issues when necessary.

Compliance Enforcement

      Conduct inspections of businesses and facilities to assess compliance with environmental health regulations (e.g., food safety, water quality, waste management).

 Investigate complaints regarding environmental health hazards, including potential violations.  Issue citations and notices of non-compliance to entities that violate regulations.

Data Analysis and Reporting

                               Analyze inspection data to identify trends and areas of concern.

                                    Prepare reports on environmental health compliance and activity for senior management and regulated entities.

                              Use data to inform decision-making and program development.

Community Outreach and Education

      Provide environmental health education to the public through presentations, workshops, and community outreach programs.

                                Collaborate with local communities to address environmental health concerns.

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Prepare Food plan reviews using applicable State rules and statutes. Knowledge of terminology, principles, and analytical techniques of physical/natural sciences. Knowledge of data collection and analysis. Ability to perform site inspections, collect or evaluate, analyze and interpret scientific data. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques. Ability to supervise personnel. Ability to determine work priorities. Delegate work assignments and ensure proper completion of assignments

 

Qualifications:

 A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the physical or natural sciences, environmental health, public health, or engineering  three years of professional experience in environmental health, regulation or protection.  A valid Florida Class E Driver’s License.  A certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 381.0101 for Food Protection
