Paralegal Specialist – 70007745
This advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office in the Office of General Counsel.
Salary: $42,259.88 - $44,607.42 Annual Range (Based off of years of experience.)
SALARY WILL BE DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT PAY POLICY.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides paralegal assistance to three (3) Senior Attorneys in the Litigation Unit of the Office of General Counsel. Prepares all related documents and reports regarding litigation, as directed by an attorney.
- Provides paralegal support to the attorneys by assisting with discovery requests, scheduling hearings, mediations, travel, etc., for litigation cases.
- Maintains various computer logs and tracking systems that captures case information.
- Maintains proper maintenance of the electronic and hard copy legal case files to ensure that the case files are current and u p-to-date daily.
- Responsible for assigning service of process to an attorney, creating an electronic file, and promptly logging into the case tracking system.
- Responds to inquiries and provide assistance to Department staff members, outside agencies, judges, court personnel, attorneys, and private citizens regarding active and potential litigation.
- Assists in the maintenance of the general and research files for the attorneys in the litigation unit.
- Reviews litigation discovery requests sent by contract counsel and the Office of the Attorney General; investigates subject matter, and prepares replies as designated by the attorney assigned to the case.
- Schedules court reporters as needed for hearing. Reviews and processes invoices received from court reporter and submits for payment once approved by attorney.
- Provides paralegal support for the attorneys in the Litigation Unit with preparation for mediations and hearings. This includes making travel arrangements by reserving a vehicle and making hotel reservations.
- Drafts correspondence to inmates when necessary and instructed to do so by attorney.
- Back-up responsibilities in other areas as may be designated.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience redacting documents.
- Experience logging and tracking cases in a case management system.
- Experience scheduling depositions, mediations, hearings, and other legal proceedings.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience drafting legal documents.
- Experience utilizing state and/or federal court databases.
- Experience scheduling and/or calendaring for an attorney.
