This position is assigned to the Opp Support/Fleet section within the Division of Law Enforcement. The primary duty of this position is to plan and direct the work of technical personnel at the North Florida Shop engaged in the electronic rigging of new equipment including but not limited to patrol vehicles and vessels, the installation of telecommunications equipment and the repair/refurbishment of the existing fleet of FWC patrol equipment.
Duties include but are not limited to the following: Establishing the priority of work assignments. Motivating personnel to accomplish work assigned in a timely manner. Evaluating/diagnosing failed equipment to pinpoint operational problems, system and/or equipment issues. Performing quality control inspections on rigged equipment before it leaves the shop. Directing the prototyping of installations on new model equipment. Assisting, when necessary, with maintenance/repair/rigging duties on assorted FWC equipment. Evaluating, monitoring and recommending modifications to installed equipment and the related maintenance requirements to ensure maximum effectiveness. Meeting with vendors when needed to test and examine new technologies in law enforcement emergency equipment and developing recommendations to management. Traveling to state-wide locations to support division missions and co-workers as needed. Participating in the division’s Rigging Committee which may involve conference calls and/or group meetings.
The incumbent is responsible for providing training for shop personnel to ensure they maintain job knowledge and skill levels. The incumbent will attend training seminars sponsored by the agency, equipment vendors and other entities as required. The incumbent will complete all training and policy reviews assigned via Power DMS in a timely manner and ensure the compliance of same by subordinate staff. The incumbent will maintain familiarity with accreditation and performance measurement standards and ensure all standards related to assigned area are achieved.
The incumbent will ensure the overall effectiveness of allocated personnel and budget resources through the establishment and monitoring of proper fiscal management, computerized records/tracking systems and internal fiscal controls. The incumbent will follow all agency and division prescribed policies, procedures and guidelines and ensure the compliance of same by assigned staff. Incumbent will prepare reports and correspondence as required to document productivity and performance of employees, vendors, contractors or equipment. Incumbent will provide production variance reports and make recommendations to management for production improvements to help meet unit goals.
The incumbent is responsible for the timely completion of personnel and administrative matters for all assigned subordinates to include approval of leave, completion of timesheets, completion of monthly equipment usage logs, submittal of travel authorizations and reimbursement requests, and submittal of purchasing documentation and any other associated administrative duties. The incumbent will assist with the evaluation and discipline of assigned subordinates in accordance with division policy. The incumbent will assist with the screening, interviewing and hiring of new personnel as may be required.
The incumbent will maintain a positive work ethic and ensure that a positive working environment exists for all shop personnel. The incumbent will proactively and positively interact with co-workers to ensure a productive working environment. The incumbent will maintain good communication with section management to ensure mutual goals are reached in support of the division’s mission. The incumbent will maintain effective working relationships with regional personnel to ensure the technical work performed by shop staff is operating as expected.
