The Work You Will Do:

GIS Mapping Analyst II / Geographic Information Systems

 

This role develops Geographic Information System (GIS) products using Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) platforms to support internal offices, state agencies, and external customers, while performing data management in accordance with FDOT standards, including researching and acquiring necessary datasets. It also involves creating quality‑control processes, maintaining metadata, and producing aerial basemaps for the Aerial Photo Program. The position is responsible for developing and delivering GIS training across the Department and regularly collaborating with customers to define project requirements, present solutions, address questions, and provide training on implemented GIS tools.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Develop Geographic Information Systems (GIS) products using Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) GIS platforms in support of Department of Transportation offices, other state agencies, and external customers.

 

Perform data management tasks in support of geospatial products following established FDOT data standards. When necessary, conduct research to locate and obtain existing datasets.

 

Develop and perform quality control procedures, metadata documentation and aerial basemap production in support of the Aerial Photo Program.

 

Develop, maintain, schedule and distribute training opportunities to promote GIS skills in the Department.

 

Interreact with customers, both internal and external, to define project requirements and deliverables. Present solutions to customers, answer questions and provide training on developed solutions. 

 

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Knowledge of:

Knowledge of cartography, geography, and mapping terminology
Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) concepts

Skills in:

Skill in the use of GIS, and related software for mapping purposes
Skill in installing and maintaining ArcGIS software
Skill in GIS customization using Python or other programming languages

Ability to:

Ability to perform spatial analysis and interpret results
Ability to create geographic maps using GIS software
Ability to perform photo-interpretation of aerial imagery to identify relevant features
Ability to work with internal and external customers in a courteous manner

 

Other Job-Related Requirements:

Employee will be required to be responsive to emergency situations within a very short timeframe and serve in the Transportation Emergency Management Team (TEMT).

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience with GIS software.
