DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Government Analyst I position reports directly to the Chief of Planning and Evaluation. The position will be responsible for supporting staff in providing research and analysis of information and collaborating with staff to produce written materials suitable for general audiences. The following duties and activities are assigned to the Government Analyst I, in support of the Department’s mission, goals, and responsibilities:

Conducts research on aging issues related to planning activities while staying abreast of innovations, current research, and important events in the fields of aging, health and human services, and health care policy. 

  • Assists supervisor and others in the unit in the preparation and review of reports and other documents in support of Department programs and activities, including, but not limited to, the Summary of Programs and Services, State Plan on Aging, and the Long-Range Program Plan.
  • Supports an integrated agency-wide strategic plan and roadmap that aligns department initiatives with agency goals and objectives by participating in the strategic planning and quality improvement processes.
  • Supports strategic objectives by researching and testing innovations related to strategically defined department focus areas.
  • Assists the Bureau Chief in the research, development, and management of Planning and Evaluation projects.
  • Tracks and provides status updates on projects and key project milestones.
  • Researches scientific studies, management plans, statutes, administrative code, and federal rules and provide recommendations regarding applicability to relevant program activity.
  • Works with staff in reviewing and submitting items to be updated to the DOEA website. Incumbent reviews current website items to maintain and update data, reports, measures and standards, out of date or incorrect material to improve the usefulness of the website as appropriate.
  • Assists in publications that depict demographic trends in the 60+ population, such as the annual state and county profiles.
  • Assists in gathering, compiling, and analyzing information; organizing and producing periodic reports as needed.
  • Attendance is a required function.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Possess excellent oral, writing, and computer literacy skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Possess strong organizational/time management skills and ability to meet deadlines independently.
  • Ability to work closely to support bureau proposal and project efforts as needed through data management efforts, surveys, and other tools.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, social science, or a closely related field.
  • Professional or nonprofessional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
