Position Overview and Responsibilities:

  • Position serves as the Division’s Fire Coordinator.
  • Responsible for the coordination of the fire management program across Florida’s 175 state parks including leadership roles in training, standards development, planning, implementation and support of prescribed burning and the staff implementing the burns, partnership. development, program analysis, data management, equipment purchasing and maintenance, development of current and future fire staff.
  • Position works to ensure needed fire management is taking place today with an eye towards solutions to future challenges.
  • Position is part of the Division’s Bureau of Natural and Cultural Resources reporting to the Natural Resources Section lead.
  • Position works closely with Fire Coordinators in each of the Florida Park Service’s five district offices.
  • The position may supervise one or more OPS staff.  

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the terminology, equipment, management principles and practices of prescribed fire and wildfire suppression techniques and applicable Florida laws; ecology of Florida’s fire-dependent natural communities and species; Incident Command System.

Skills in leadership, administration, and organization including time and information management, written and oral communication, building partnerships, identifying program needs, and problem solving

Ability to coordinate a complex fire management program; foster and maintain effective working relationships; use computers (Microsoft Office Suite) for word processing, information management, communications, and data management; travel-including overnight travel; maintain a valid driver’s license.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of verifiable related experience in wildland fire management. Post-secondary degrees from an accredited university or college in the Natural Sciences (Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or Forestry) may be used as an alternative for the required 5 years of experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Travel

 

 

Applicable Job-Specific License or Certifications:

Position is expected to be a Florida Certified Prescribe Burn Manager or be able to obtain the certification within the first year of employment.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in leading large complex projects especially related to fire or natural resources.

 

 

Pay Range:

$53,917.08 – $70,000 (Commensurate with experience).
