Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a professional communications role serving as the liaison for the Division of Children’s Medical Services. The position is responsible for managing both internal and external communications, developing content, and strengthening the division’s brand across various platforms. Key duties include planning and executing communication strategies in collaboration with the Department’s Office of Communications and the Office of Legislative Planning. The role reports directly to the Division Director. Duties and Tasks include:

 

Strategic Communications & Planning:

•    Lead internal and strategic communications for Children’s Medical Services.
•    Act as liaison for digital media best practices, branding, and emerging trends.
•    Develop internal communications strategy with Division Director and Office of Communications.
•    Coordinate crisis communication responses to protect organizational reputation.

 

Content Creation & Dissemination:

•    Create and distribute statewide in-house publications.
•    Collect, format, and deliver information via press releases, social media, web posts, etc.
•    Write, edit, and format documents, presentations, and publications for leadership and program offices.
•    Draft leadership messages/scripts for internal communication.

 

Media & Event Support:

•    Support Office of Communications with press conferences, media events, and public meetings.
•    Storyboard or translate ideas for creative teams or vendors.
•    Represent the Division at statewide events through presentations.

 

Internal Communication Management:

•    Ensure consistent messaging across all internal media and Division areas.
•    Plan, write, and edit content for intranet, email bulletins, and monthly deliverables.
•    Communicate Division initiatives and projects to employees and stakeholders.

 

Marketing & Campaigns:

•    Assist in creating and coordinating marketing plans for Division programs.
•    Ensure compliance with Department marketing and communications policies.
•    Lead and coordinate special projects and statewide campaigns.
•    Support design services and oversee marketing research and campaign evaluations.

 

Legislative Reports and Special Projects:

•    Legislative Bill Analysis
•    Legislative Implementation Plans
•    Constituent Correspondence
•    Presentations for Legislators
•    Monitoring legislative committee agendas

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

•    Managing projects on a strict deadline.
•    Working with little supervision.
•    Experience coordinating and running in-person and virtual meetings, and workshops.
•    Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
•    Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud apps, Publisher, Canva, or other creative content tools.
•    Experience with developing creative content (PowerPoint presentations, newsletters, websites, infographics).
•    Experience writing and editing content for both internal and external stakeholders, such as newsletters, communications (e.g., emails, website), or meeting minutes.
•    Strong verbal and written communication.
•    Excellent organizational and project management abilities. 
•    Ability to analyze information and develop innovative solutions to communication challenges. 
•    Strong attention to detail for ensuring accuracy in all written materials.
•    Proactive in generating ideas and taking ownership of work. 
•    Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.
•    Ability to travel within the Tallahassee area to support offsite meetings or events using your own vehicle.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

•    A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in English, Journalism, Public Relations, Health Communication or Business.
•    Three (3) years of professional experience in marketing, advertising, public relations, or business.
•    Professional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education
