ADVERTISING TITLE: GOVERNMENT OPERATIONS CONSULTANT I
This internal advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office in the Office of Finance & Accounting in Tallahassee, Florida.
The mission of the Finance & Accounting Department in the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to ensure the management responsible for the Department's financial resources through accurate accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
The incumbent in this position performs standard accounting functions including but not limited to; accounts payable, accounts receivable, check remittance, or other technical /clerical accounting activities in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- This position is primarily responsible for the daily and monthly reconciliation between the Department’s Central Office and Community Release Center entries in the automated accounting system and the financial institution activity for the Inmate Trust Fund.
- The incumbent will maintain all account and reconciliation documentation electronically.
- The incumbent will submit check positive pay data to the financial institution on all banking workdays and resolve all positive pay exceptions reported by the financial institution.
- The incumbent will monitor bank adjustments and work with Central Office staff, Community Release Center staff, and financial institution representatives timely to ensure inmate accounts are correctly stated.
- The incumbent must develop and maintain professional working relationships with Central Office Finance and Accounting staff and Community Release Center staff responsible for maintaining documentation and entering financial transactions for inmates assigned to the state-operated Community Release Centers.
- The incumbent will be expected to review, test, suggest, and approve enhancements to the Inmate Trust Fund automated accounting system.
- The incumbent will become knowledgeable at a high level on all statutes, rules and procedures related to required work functions to ensures the department’s overall compliance with established internal and external procedural guidelines, regulations, and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- The incumbent will be responsible for reviewing and responding to security access requests related to Finance and Accounting data, systems and profile assignments submitted through the department’s automated workflow system.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Must possess a High school diploma or its equivalent.
- Must be currently employeed with the Florida Department of Corrections.
- Must have at least two (2) years’ experience demonstrating basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
