This open competitive advertisement is for multiple OPS (Other Personal Services) position located at Central Office, Tallahassee, FL in the Office of Administration, Public Records Request Unit.
The mission of the Office of Administration in the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to provide comprehensive administrative support and services that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Department's operations.
This position is not a Telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
- The incumbent in this position is expected to become familiar in the department’s reentry initiatives; display leadership skills that demonstrate the department’s commitment to reentry efforts for offenders while maintaining a professional demeanor.
- Receives and logs public record requests; prioritizes review of documents and processing of requests according to urgency of requested response, confers with team lead and/or supervisor; contacts all applicable custodians to request responsive records.
- Consults with Department employees, as needed, to determine applicable exemptions and reference legal justifications per Florida Statutes and Florida Administrative Rules.
- Reviews and understands Florida Statutes relating to public records that are exempt/confidential in order to provide assistance with the interpretation of exemptions to departmental staff and requestors.
- Performs highly independent work in responding to complex requests and makes recommendations accordingly.
- Makes further requests to additional custodians where/when applicable and provide solutions where problems may exist.
- Ensures completeness of Department responses to public records requests by reviewing responsive documents provided, pursuant to records searches conducted, to ascertain that responses address the specific nature of each aspect of the requests.
- Responds to written, electronic, and telephone inquiries from field staff, other agencies, and the public regarding agency rules and policies referencing public records requests and exemptions to public records, both general and specific.
- Conducts and/or participates in special projects and other duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of the Florida Department of Corrections structure and operations.

- Knowledge of the criminal justice system.
- Knowledge of problem-solving techniques.

- Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs.

You contribute 7.5% of your compensation to this tax deferred plan. All OPS employees are required to participate in this plan and are automatically enrolled.
REQUIREMENTS:

- Must have five (5) years of experience using Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Access, Word, and Outlook)
- Must have experience with criminal history records, HIPPA and/or Freedom of Information Act (Public Records Requests).

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
