 WORKING TITLE: GOVERNMENT OPERATIONS CONSULTANT II

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office in Tallahassee, FL in the Office of Strategic Initiatives.

The mission of the Office of Strategic Initiatives in the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to drive innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement across the Department.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

 

JOB DUTIES:

This position, located in the Office of Strategic Initiatives, plays an essential role in supporting organizational priorities through effective project management, event planning, and administrative support. Strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously are critical for success in this role.

  • Manage projects from start to finish, including developing project schedules, tracking milestones, preparing progress reports in Monday.com, and ensuring projects align with outlined goals. Maintain regular communication with internal and external stakeholders to support project progress.
  • Plan and execute departmental events, meetings, and special initiatives, including handling logistics, preparing materials, developing itineraries, communicating key information to participants, and providing all other needed support.
  • Provide administrative support, including managing the agency master calendar, preparing agendas, drafting and distributing meeting-related communications, recording accurate meeting minutes, coordinating scheduling needs, and completing other assigned tasks.

REQUIREMENTS:

Please note, when submitting a college/university degree, if selected for this position official transcripts will be required.

  • Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • At least three (3) years of professional experience managing projects, including scheduling, tracking progress or milestones, preparing reports, or managing project documentation.
  • At least two (2) years of professional experience planning or supporting events, meetings, workshops, or organizational initiatives.
  • At least one (1) year of professional experience providing administrative support, such as calendar management, preparing agendas, taking meeting minutes, or coordinating scheduling needs.
  • At least one (1) year of professional experience preparing written materials (reports, agendas, minutes, presentations, or communication documents) demonstrating clarity, accuracy, and professional quality.
  • Ability and willingness to adjust work hours on an occasional basis during high volume periods (such as legislative session or major project deadlines), including arriving early or staying late when necessary.
  • Postsecondary education may substitute for up to four (4) years of the required experience.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
