WORKING TITLE: GOVERNMENT OPERATIONS CONSULTANT II
This open competitive advertisement is for an OPS (Other Personal Services) position located at Central Office in Tallahassee, FL in the Finance & Accounting.
The mission of the Finance and Accounting department in the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to provide accurate, timely, and transparent financial management and reporting.
This position is not a Telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
- Ensures compliance with §215.422 F.S., Reference Guide for State Expenditures, department procedures, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other fiscal standards, for the timely payment of the department’s legal liabilities.
- Verifies entries utilizing Florida Accounting Information Resource (FLAIR), Budget and Accounting Reporting System (BARS), and Ariba on Demand (AOD).
- Audit invoices for accuracy completeness, and proper authorization to pay; Reviews source documents, such as invoices, purchase orders, vouchers, or similar materials to ensure compliance. Identifies inaccuracies, such as math errors, missing, or inaccurate information.
- Prepares and submits required reports in a timely, accurate manner; provides additional documentation as required or requested.
- Work with management team, vendors, and other department staff to resolve invoice payment issues.
- Responds to inquiries for information or accounting data from staff, vendors, auditors, and other internal/external customers.
- Maintains minimum required Departmental annual training hours and attends sufficient additional training in all relevant areas of accounting and computer systems to remain current and efficient.
- Performs other related duties as required, including special projects.

- Retirement - As an OPS employee, the Florida FICA Alternative Plan with Corebridge Financial affords you an excellent opportunity to help accumulate money for a secure retirement. You contribute 7.5% of your compensation to this tax deferred plan. All OPS employees are required to participate in this plan and are automatically enrolled.
REQUIREMENTS:

- Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Must be permitted to have access to the Department Institutions and FLAIR.
- Must have two (2) years of experience in accounting, finance, or administrative work.
- Postsecondary education may substitute on a year for year basis for the required experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Invoice and Customer Service experience.
Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
