Your Specific Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate outreach and messaging for the agency by working proactively and effectively maintaining relationships with internal Divisions, CareerSource Florida and SelectFlorida, as well as other state agencies and partners across the state.
  • Coordinate, research and respond to inquiries from stakeholders and the public.
  • Manage and coordinate drafting and editing of press releases, press advisories, agency statements, opinion pieces, and articles for internal and external publication as well as speeches, messages, talking points, and responses for the agency head.
  • Coordinate management, monitoring and creation of content for all social media platforms - currently, Twitter and LinkedIn.
  • Coordinate writing, editing, and distributing fact sheets, brochures, newsletters, etc., and meeting appropriate deadlines.
  • Coordinate the fulfillment of public records requests from members of the media, including coordinating with appropriate program areas and offices.
  • Coordinate the development and branding of the agency through strategic communications and messaging in coordination with other partners and the Executive Office of the Governor.
  • Identify opportunities and events that can be leveraged to support agency goals.
  • Develop and maintain professional contacts with community leaders, representatives, external partners and stakeholders to strengthen and support the agency’s reputation and relationship with Florida communities, agencies and associations.
  • Work collaboratively with senior leadership to develop and implement marketing and outreach strategies.
  • Develop and produce briefings for Agency Head and Senior Leadership Team.
  • Assist the Director of Communications and External Affairs in managing the Office of Communications and External Affairs and staff.
  • Serve as a communications liaison with the Executive Office of the Governor when needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

 

 Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge of crisis communications and strategic message development.
  • Superior writing, editing, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient skills in digital communications and technology (Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite,).
  • Proficient in social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc., and knowledgeable of best practices.
  • Ability to work efficiently as a team player.
  • Ability to be proactive and work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of the rules of grammar and punctuation in accordance with AP Style.
  • Ability to seamlessly adapt to rapidly changing priorities and accelerated deadlines.

 

Qualifications:

As a condition of pre-employment eligibility, a Level 2 security background screening is required, which consists of fingerprinting and a check of local, state, and national law enforcement records. 

 

Minimum:

  • A minimum of two years’ experience working in a public relations/communications position.

 

Preferred:

  • Skilled in public speaking.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with high level officials.
  • Knowledge of print, radio, and television formats and industry protocols.
  • Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) writing style for press releases and print communications.

 

Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00

This position serves as the Deputy Communications Director under the direction of the Director of Communications and External Affairs in the Department of Commerce.  Position is responsible for developing, coordinating, managing, implementing, and measuring the Agency’s proactive internal and external outreach to key stakeholders and members of the public.
