Position Overview and Responsibilities:

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Recreation and Parks, Bureau of Operational Services is seeking a highly motivated individual to provide leadership coordination for staff training and professional development for the Division of Recreation and Parks to foster understanding of and support for the Florida Park Service mission, improving visitor experiences and accomplishing department initiatives and strategic goals.

 

This position will participate in researching, recommending, developing, and delivering statewide training and professional development programs that strengthen Florida’s position as a premier destination for outdoor recreation and tourism. These initiatives will address emerging trends and global issues in parks and recreation leadership, while promoting exceptional visitor service and enhancing the appeal of Florida’s natural and cultural resources. Additionally, programs will focus on conservation, preservation, and service delivery strategies that safeguard the unique ecosystems, heritage sites and recreational assets that define the state’s identity. In addition to core training opportunities, the position will play a key role in planning and coordinating annual division-wide meetings—including park managers meetings, assistant park managers meetings, and administrative assistant meetings—which serve as critical forums for information sharing, collaboration, and alignment on strategic priorities

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication.
  • The principles, methods and techniques of successful training and educational programming.
  • The use of current media and technology in training and educational programming.
  • State purchasing guidelines.
  • Applicable accessibility and inclusion laws, regulations, standards and guidelines.
  • Current fiscal procedures.

 

Skill in:

  • The development and management of division-wide initiatives.
  • The research, development, production, review and evaluation of a variety of successful educational and professional development programs, standards and guidelines, tools and resources.

 

Ability to:

  • Plan, coordinate and facilitate training in-person and with the assistance of technology with particular emphasis on essential division-level statewide meetings, division orientation and specialized overnight programs such as Leadership Academy and Ranger Academy.
  • Coordinate training management, purchasing, contract and fiscal responsibilities for assigned programs and projects.
  • Collect, organize, evaluate and analyze data, including tracking, analyzing and evaluating training to determine best practices, recommend strategic improvements, establish policies and procedures and develop appropriate tools and resources.
  • Apply innovation and creativity to the development and management of training and professional development programs.
  • Take initiative and achieve outcomes with little to no supervision.
  • Utilize problem solving techniques and apply critical thinking skills.
  • Calmly and effectively coordinate emergency/crisis situations.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Successfully manage concurrent projects and deadlines critical to operations.
  • Delegate across chains of command.
  • Effectively supervise and mentor assigned staff.
  • Effectively communicate with diverse audiences.

  • Manage programs and deliver results based on project goals.

  • Use computer software applications, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Represent the Bureau of Operational Services and division at various meetings, trainings and other assigned functions.
  • Travel frequently, including day, overnight, and multi-night trips.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to travel to perform duties

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in parks and recreation leadership or environmental education
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles and instructional design
  • Experience in event planning and coordination

 

 

Pay:

$47,500.00 to $52,200 annually commensurate with experience
