JOB DUTIES:

This position is responsible for maintaining the grounds and parking lots of the Mayo Building and the 112 acre Agricultural Complex. Approximately 55 acres of this is highly manicured. The remaining 57 acres is pasture land. This includes all landscaping, cutting trees, mowing, edging, weed-eating, pruning, planting, pressure washing, cleaning rooftops, picking up trash on grounds, application of fertlizers, insecticides, pesticides, and herbicides and parking lot striping. Repairs parking lots, fences, gates, corrals, water troughs and exterior buildings. Keeps records on all equipment. Maintains grounds equipment, the Florida Cracker Cattle and Horses, and the irrigation and sprinkler systems.

Maintains the Mayo Building and the Agricultural Complex grounds which includes cutting trees, mowing, edging, weed-eating, pruning, planting, pressure washing and cleaning rooftops. Picks up trash on complex grounds. Maintains a program for the application of fertlizers, insecticides, pesticides and herbicides. Repairs and maintains all parking lots, fences, gates, corrals, water troughs, exterior buildings and the propagation and care of plants. Applies treatment to fencing. Maintains and operates all grounds tractors and lawn mowing equipment.  

Responsible for the maintenance, repair and operation of the Agricultural Complex irrigation system which consists of approximately 55 acres and a deep well and a three-acre pond. The pond is used for the irrigation of the  55 acres. The deep well is used to maintain the proper water level in the pond.

Assists in the maintenance of the Florida Cracker Cattle and Horses. This will include summer and winter grazing; maintaining fencing; administering vaccination and wormer medications; attending to injured animals; and feeding on a daily basis during the winter months and every other day during the summer.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to frequently bend, kneel, stand and walk for several hours each day.
