Position Overview and Responsibilities:

The Groundskeeper role works alongside the Groundskeeping Supervisor or Groundskeeping Superintendent. This position is responsible for knowing the names of the more common plants, being able to identify insect or disease conditions on plants, and having knowledge of proper plant maintenance technique, including mowing, pruning, and cleanup. The selected candidate must be able to work independently, and be able to follow directions, and have the skill to serve as a crew leader from time to time. Excellent people skills are required because our team is in continuous contact with both building tenants and the public. It is required that courteous and respectful behavior is displayed at all times, plus conveying a professional image is needed as this position is a representative of DMS to both the public and tenants.The selected candidate filling this position is responsible for independently:
 

  • Mow and edge lawns, trim hedges and shrubs, water landscapes, set annuals, fertilize lawns and landscape plants, and spray insecticides and fungicides.
  • Rake and dispose of leaves and trash. Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment, including tractors and backhoe. Perform trash control duties, light custodial duties and other duties as required.
  • Act as a crew leader when instructed by supervisor. Direct, oversee, and inspect work performed by crew members to include spray operations, landscape installations, maintenance, or other jobs as necessary.
  • Assist the supervisor, as needed, with recordkeeping, collecting data, and handling administrative paperwork relating to Grounds Section operations. When necessary, may be assigned special projects by supervisor which may be performed independently or in conjunction with other employees

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:.

  • Knowledge of groundskeeping and landscaping horticultural techniques.
  • Ability to operate lawn equipment including but not limited to all lawn mowing equipment, weed eaters, blowers, tractors and line marking equipment (non-routine, as needed)
  • Ability to communicate effectively.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year of lawncare experience.
  • The ability to climb multiple flights of stairs, climb a ladder, reach overhead, work from heights, bend at the waist, kneel and crouch, prolonged periods of time walking, standing and exerting up to 30 pounds of force frequently. Ability to work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
  • Ability to operate lawn equipment including but not limited to all lawn mowing equipment, weed eaters, blowers, tractors and line marking equipment.
