Health Services and Facilities Consultant
The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is seeking an organized, flexible and motivated individual to become an essential member of the Public Health Reporting Section of the Division of Public Health Statistics and Performance Management. Your Specific Responsibilities:
This position provides statistical, reporting, GIS, and data management support for headquarters and county health departments (CHDs). Located in the Bureau of Community Health Assessment, this position requires a broad knowledge of various health statistics, methods and data sources which include vital statistics, health risk surveys, health care utilization, Florida population data, and the US Census.
- Collaborate with the FLHealthCHARTS team and other programs to prepare and provide annual data updates. This includes singular indicator updates as well as large dataset updates.
- Collaborate with the FLHealthCHARTS team and other programs to prepare monthly FLHealthCHARTS homepage updates, Prepare and provide content for the FLHealthCHARTS monthly user emails.
- Support the FLHealthCHARTS team by participating in meetings, trainings, providing and/or reviewing data, and providing support to FLHealthCHARTS users.
- Under the guidance of the CHARTS manager, research ideas for public health indicator visualizations for new and existing profile and dashboard reports. These will display counts and rates at the county, zip code, and/or census tract levels, and public health indicators will be added over time.
- Prepare written documentation such as data dictionaries and on-line data training that support shared use of public health data sets.
- Provide support for GIS and geocoding project. Each year, assist with geocoding births, deaths, and fetal deaths, producing latitude and longitude coordinates and assignment of census tracts. As requested, provide data based on customized geographic areas.
- Provide support for annual update of the linked data tables from vital statistics records and other data linking projects.
- Perform other related duties, as required.
During the performance of duties, comply with and monitor compliance (when applicable) of the mandatory requirements of Section 215.422, Florida Statutes, and Chapter 3A-24, Florida Administrative Code.
Responsible for maintaining the security of information and protect confidentiality consistent with state and federal laws and rules and departmental policies, protocols and procedures.
Incumbent is assigned a Purchasing Card and will follow Florida Law, purchasing policies of the Department of Health and the purchasing guidelines for using the Purchasing Card.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of public health, public administration, health care or social services
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and concisely
- Ability to write grammatically correct and accurate reports that communicate concise reports
- Ability to review and analyze agency records and documents
- Ability to provide effective presentations and information to a broad range of audiences, internal and external to the Department

- Skill in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Knowledge of Microsoft SQL or willingness to learn
Qualifications:
Preferred - A Master’s degree from a college or university is preferred. Three years of professional experience in social services, public health, or health care is preferred. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate critical thinking skills, flexibility, innovation and a desire to improve health care for Florida’s residents.
