Ensures direct support is provided to parents/guardians through the Hope Navigator Program. The services provided will include, but are not limited to:
Intake- Interaction with parent(s) to input introductory information.
Needs Assessment - Assist parent(s) with a child with disabilities by identifying barriers to their child acquiring services.
Service Planning - Refer parent(s) to the local school district and organizations that deliver services to students with disabilities. Provide one-on-one support for the parent(s) to develop a plan to achieve educational outcomes for his or her child. Collaborate closely with other partner agencies to ensure other barriers the family is facing can be addressed through Hope Florida community partners.
Monitoring and Evaluation - Identify optimal outcomes with the parent(s) and evaluate ongoing supports.

The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) has an open position that is responsible for executing the following functions:
Provides information, technical assistance and support related to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), to families and other stakeholders.
Hope Florida Initiative
- Collaborates with other Bureau staff as a lead of the FDOE Hope Florida unit.
- Supervises the Hope Navigators within the Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services (BEESS).
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding and knowledge of the indicator measurement, related data, improvement activities, and all aspects of the Hope Florida initiative.
- Interacts with other agencies supporting the Hope Florida initiative.
- Prepares reports and other materials related to the Hope Florida initiative.
- In the context of FDOE Hope Navigator activities, reviews data to evaluate progress and design/evaluate improvement activities.
- Assists team leader in preparing the required sections of SPP/APR in accordance with the established calendar.
- As travel schedule permits, participates in and attends Hope Florida events and meetings; calls related to the respective indicator(s).
Staff Supervision
- Develops plans for unit with employees and other appropriate staff
- Performs appraisals of employees including establishment of standards and responsibilities and meets regularly with employees to ensure accomplishment of standards
- Trains employees in methods of effectively and efficiently carrying out duties and responsibilities
- Reviews travel papers, meeting requests, forms, publications, memoranda, CorrFlow, and other documents for technical accuracy and compliance with policy and regulations
- Directs the work of employees to ensure maximum use of time and resources in accordance with established priorities.
The ideal incumbent must be productive under tight timeframes, balance multiple and competing priorities, and maintain goal-directed behavior and performance sometimes under stressful conditions. The incumbent must interact courteously with others. The performance and behavior of all employees must demonstrate consideration of the workload concerns of others and must not negatively affect productivity and morale of the unit. Attendance is an essential function of this position.
- At least two to four years of experience working with students and families in exceptional education.
- At least two years of experience as a supervisor.
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel
Preferences will be given to applicants who have:
- excellent writing skills,
- presentation experience,
- Understanding/working knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and,
- Working knowledge of the State Performance Plan (SPP).

- A bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (or equivalent) from an accredited college or University in Education

- Annual Leave - All full-time Career Service employees filling established positions earn annual leave in varying increments dependent upon years of creditable service. Employees with up to 5 years of creditable service earn 8.667 hours per month, with 5 to 10 years earn 10.833 hours per month and those with over 10 years of service earn 13 hours per month. Employees in Senior Management Service and Selected Exempt Service positions are credited with 176 hours of annual leave upon appointment. In subsequent years, the annual allotment is credited on the anniversary date of the initial appointment.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
It is the policy of the Florida Department of Education that applicants for employment/volunteer undergo Level 2 background screening in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment or being permitted to serve as a volunteer.
