A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

 

 

Preferences:

  • One (1) year working as an insurance representative, insurance agent or an insurance adjuster for an insurance agency or insurance company.
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university preferably with major course work in insurance or risk management. 
  • Experience with mediations or neutral evaluations.

This position will start at the non-negotiable salary of $51,000.00 annually.

 

Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the following REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Skill in use of personal computers.

Skill in use of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel .

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Ability to review and retain legislation, rule chapters and Florida Statutes and apply the knowledge effectively.

Ability to review and resolve insurance complaints from consumers and other parties.

Ability to work well with others.

Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This position handles Alternative Dispute Resolution Program requests including commercial residential mediation, automobile mediation, continuing care retirement community (CCRC) mediation, residential mediation, and sinkhole neutral evaluation.

 

Applies research and problem-solving techniques in order to accomplish the objectives of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Programs.

Answers questions received via incoming calls and email regarding the Alternative Dispute Resolution programs.

 

Provides guidance to consumers regarding the mediation or neutral evaluation process by analyzing and reasoning with information and data to make decisions and solve problems. These processes involve making decisions about the relative importance of information and choosing the best solution.

Assigns mediators and neutral evaluators for scheduling of conferences.

 

Oversees compliance of Rules and Statutes by the mediators and evaluators.

 

Ensures timely payment of administrative fees associated with the mediation program.

 

Ensures timely follow-up on mediation survey responses provided by consumers and/or insurance companies.

 

Prepares and sends written correspondence to the public and/or insurance company representatives or officials, and discusses files with attorneys, assignees, consumers, and insurance companies for the Alternative Dispute Resolution Programs. Provides insurance information and advice to the public, insurance agents, companies, adjusters and other parties as necessary.

 

Participates in the Alternative Dispute Resolution Program team meetings in order to provide information, review updates, and discuss implementation of new legislation.

 

Serves as a staff member for Automatic Call Distribution on the Alternative Dispute Resolution helpline.

 

Assist walk-in consumers with requests related to the Alternative Dispute Resolution programs.

 

Updates and maintains records in computer databases, provides reports, and performs special research assignments related to the Alternative Dispute Resolution and other Department programs

 

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor.

 

The incumbent in this position is a member of the DFS disaster response team and in that capacity may be required, on short notice, to perform duties in support of disaster relief
