Requirements:

Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory criminal history check (fingerprint-based) in accordance with Chapter 435, Florida Statutes.

*LEVEL 2 BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION / FINGERPRINTS REQUIRED*

Four (4) relevant years of experience in public administration, business administration, accounting, or other related field is required, and at least two years of auditing experience, preferably in a government or public-sector environment.

A bachelor's degree is substitutable for experience.

Professional certifications such as CIA, CPA, CGAP, or CISA are highly desirable.

Possession of a valid driver license

 

Additional Requirements:

Occasional travel required. Travel may vary based on scheduled activities (reviews, workshops, conferences, technical assistance, etc.).

Must be approved by FDLE/FBI to access Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) information and must be able to obtain CJIS level 4 certification.

Office hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday.

 

Overview:

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Internal Auditor in the Office of Inspector General (OIG) is responsible for conducting independent, objective audits and reviews of the organization's operations, programs, and processes to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and policies. This role supports the OIG’s mission to detect and prevent fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement, while promoting transparency, accountability, and efficiency across the agency.

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Conduct performance and compliance audits in accordance with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS or Yellow Book).
  • Evaluates the adequacy of internal controls and compliance with policies and procedures by planning the audit or review, designing the audit program, obtaining a thorough understanding of processes, and performing fieldwork.
  • Prepare working papers, which record and summarize data on the assigned audit segment, in accordance with government auditing standards.
  • Drafts and finalizes audit reports to communicate observations, issues, risks, and recommendations, ensuring all audit findings, exceptions, and/or proposed adjustments in the audit report are adequately explained in a clear and concise manner.
  • Completes assigned audits, management reviews, special projects, and reports within appropriate time-frames.
  • Performs follow-up audits to appraise the adequacy of the auditee’s corrective action taken to improve audit deficiencies. Assists with the annual risk assessment process.
  • Provide excellent customer service, maintain a professional demeanor, and strive for continual improvement.
  • Completes required continuing professional education training and maintains documentation for verification.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Knowledge of accounting, auditing, and other relevant professional standards
  • Ability to collect, research, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to express facts and ideas in a succinct and organized manner and make clear and convincing oral presentations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others by listening and facilitating an open exchange of ideas.
  • Ability to confirm whether an entity is following the terms of an agreement, or the rules and regulations applicable to an activity or practice prescribed by an external agency or authority.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments based upon objectives, identify problems and opportunities, monitor progress, and accomplish goals.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.
