The Work You Will Do:
The Florida Department of Transportation, Office of Inspector General is hiring an Investigator in our office. This position is vital to the values, mission, and vision of our organization. In this role, you will report directly to the Deputy Director of Investigations, conducting investigations designed to deter, detect, prevent, and eradicate fraud, waste, mismanagement, misconduct, and other abuses in State government. Your Specific Responsibilities:
Accepts and documents allegations and complaints of fraud or misconduct by citizens, Department employees, contractors, vendors or suppliers who identify or maintain a relationship with the Department. Independently plans, manages and conducts investigations to identify violations of statutes, administrative codes, policies, procedures or contracts, reporting investigative findings to Department management for management action or information. Maintains knowledge of current statutes or regulatory guidance to effectively conduct investigations.
Conducts investigations and coordinates investigative activity with federal, state and local law enforcement and prosecutive authorities when violations of federal, state, or local laws have been identified. Presents and provides briefings to law enforcement or prosecutive partners and testify to provide investigative findings in criminal or civil court as well as in administrative or personnel hearings.
Assists other investigative partners or agencies in the conduct of their investigations when approved and directed by the Inspector General
The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system
Skills in:
- Skill in determining interrelationships of facts and evidence.
- Skill in independently identifying logical investigative steps.
- Skill in determining work priorities needed to meet deadlines.
Ability to:
- Ability to apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Ability to apply investigative principles and techniques.
- Ability to produce documented reports of investigations.
- Ability to operate a personal computer using word processing software.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement agencies and prosecutors.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to present briefings and conduct training in front of groups.
- Ability to complete investigations in city, state, or federal government environments.
- Ability to examine and obtain critical elements from contract files.
- Ability to review, analyze and evaluate financial data.
- Ability to investigate and resolve allegations of procurement fraud.
Other Job-Related Requirements:
Successful completion of a level II background screening is required.
