JAC Assistant General Counsel

We recognize that sometimes the most qualified applicant isn’t available full-time.  As such, this position is available part-time, as a job-share, or full-time.

Our Organization:

The Justice Administrative Commission (JAC) serves Florida’s State Attorneys, Public Defenders, Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsels, Capital Collateral Regional Counsels, and the Statewide Guardian ad Litem Program. JAC assists these offices with the State’s accounting, budget, financial services, and human resources platforms.  JAC also processes bills from private court-appointed attorneys and associated due process services vendors (e.g., court reporters, interpreters, investigators, and expert witnesses) representing indigent individuals throughout Florida.  JAC hires great people from a wide variety of backgrounds to develop comprehensive solutions for those we serve.

The Work You Will Do:

The General Counsel’s Office seeks an Assistant General Counsel to represent JAC in civil trial and appellate court related to payment of state-funded court-appointed attorney fees and costs.  Working in teams, you will also advise JAC about employment, procurement, contract, budget, public records and legislative issues. Because the members of the General Counsel’s office participate in a wide variety of issues, you will always be developing your legal skills and expertise.

The Difference You Will Make:

At JAC, you will use your critical thinking skills and insight to communicate, innovate, and enhance the services we offer to ensure that Florida’s judicial system operates at the highest level possible.  To support employees, JAC offers opportunities for professional growth, including participation in CLE’s, FSU’s Certified Public Manager program, Six Sigma, and other relevant training. JAC also prides itself on providing state of the art information technology equipment and a hybrid workplace.

Benefits of Working for JAC:

Working for JAC is more than a paycheck. JAC attorneys are eligible for payment of their annual Florida Bar dues, may attend various professional development opportunities, and JAC is a Public Service Loan Forgiveness qualifying employer.

Pay and Benefits:

For a full-time appointment, the salary range is $75,000–$85,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Actual total compensation will vary based on election of a part-time or job-share position.

Your benefits are a significant part of your compensation.  The total compensation package for a full-time position could be anywhere from $82,346 to $127,402 annually and includes your salary, insurance, retirement, paid leave and holidays. For a more complete list of benefits, click https://www.mybenefits.myflorida.com/.

Work-Life Balance:

JAC does not have a billable hour requirement and encourages employees to maintain a healthy work-life balance.  Each month attorneys accrue 20 hours of annual leave and 8 hours, 40 minutes of sick leave.  JAC prioritizes cross-training to allow employees to utilize the leave they’ve earned.

Health Insurance:

JAC employees enjoy top-tier benefits including comprehensive health coverage to meet the needs of you and your family while maintaining low deductibles and low monthly out-of-pocket contributions totaling only $8 per month for individual coverage and $30 per month for family coverage.

Retirement Options:

JAC employees can select between the FRS pension and the FRS Investment Plan for their retirement.

Where You Will Work:

JAC’s office is located in downtown Tallahassee.  Tallahassee, Florida’s Capital City, is lined with rolling hills, oak trees, and canopied roads and combines old world charm with a modern pace of life. Home to two major universities as well as state government, Tallahassee is a mid-sized city in the heart of Florida’s Big Bend. Close to Florida’s Gulf coast and centrally located to popular tourist destinations, Tallahassee is a highly desirable location for both those seeking their first job and those ready to enter the next exciting chapter in their career. Also, with no state income tax, Florida is a great place to work regardless of where you are on the career ladder.
