The Work You Will Do:
The incumbent performs regulatory and compliance work involving agricultural and farm and child labor related activities under Chapter 450, Part III, Florida Statutes. The incumbent performs inspections and investigations of farm labor contractors/employees to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
Your Specific Responsibilities:
- Conducts on-site field inspections and investigations of farm labor contractors relative to registration/licensure, postings, vehicle and safety requirements, health and sanitation facilities, payment of wages, and other farmworker safety requirements. Completes necessary forms and monthly reports on all contacts and inspections made.
- Assists in processing crew leader registrations and conducting child labor investigations as assigned or required.
- Compiles and analyzes evidence of infractions through a review of payroll records, checks of appropriate insurance coverages and required licenses, interviews with employers/employees, and other documentation to support the conclusions reached. Conducts interviews, records statements, and gathers evidence germane to investigations.
- Develops case files on all contacts and investigations made resulting in summary of violation notices. Drafts written reports to communicate the results of inspection/investigation findings for post-investigative proceedings. Works and/or interacts with department legal staff in developing cases for administrative hearings; attends hearings and gives testimony concerning investigations when required.
- Coordinates and/or assists in joint investigations, enforcement sweeps, and task forces with other agencies. Works with other agencies on matters relating to the employment and safety of farm workers.
- Conducts and/or participates in training, technical assistance, and educational workshops with employers, crew leaders, farm workers, area law enforcement agencies, school systems, or other public/private agencies/organizations or associations
- Performs other related work (including child labor activities) as assigned/required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of Investigative techniques; ability to compile, organize and analyze data; ability to apply and interpret laws. Possess the ability to speak in public forums. Must be proficient in the use of computers; Windows based computer software programs, i.e. Word, Excel and PowerPoint. An incumbent must be able to operate a motor vehicle safely in different driving environments.
Minimum Requirements:
The selected incumbent should possess the following:
- Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in an regulatory-related field; or
- Two (2) or more years of regulatory-related experience. Experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education; and
- The ability to work flexible hours with regional travel and occasional overnight travel; and
- A valid Drivers’ License is required.
