DESCRIPTION

  • Prepare legislative budget requests based on input from field, program office staff, and leadership; collaborate with the legislative team and budget staff to finalize documents for the legislative budget process.
  • Prepare substantive legislative policy proposals, bill analyses, and draft bill language in collaboration with the legislative team, program staff, field staff, and leadership.
  • Ensure timely processing and analysis of legislative bills as they are filed during the legislative session.
  • Track the progress of bills and amendments; prepare regular updates and summaries for Child and Family Well-Being (CFWB) leadership.
  • Research and coordinate responses to inquiries from Legislators and Committee Staff regarding child welfare issues.
  • Coordinate and implement child welfare-related legislation that has been passed, ensuring alignment with statutory intent and operational readiness.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor project plans for implementing passed child welfare bills, including timelines, milestones, stakeholder responsibilities, and evaluation metrics.
  • Engage relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure a collaborative and coordinated implementation process.
  • Prepare presentations and collateral materials for Committee meetings, and for Federal and State briefings involving Child and Family Well-Being leadership.
  • Ensure timely preparation and submission of all Legislatively Mandated Reports that fall under the purview of Child and Family Well-Being.
  • Coordinate and ensure the timely completion of various federal reports.
  • Complete special project assignments and duties as requested by leadership.

 

REQUIREMENTS

This position requires strong written and oral communication skills, time management skills, knowledge of the legislative process,  knowledge of the budget process, and the ability to work collaboratively to coordinate information from various sources into one response.

 

Essential Job Functions

 

  • Ensure timely processing of analysis of legislative bills as filed during legislative session.
  • Read, understand, apply complicated and detailed regulations, and policy directives.
  • Track progress of bills and amendments, prepare updates for Child and Family Well-Being staff.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and accurate records and reports.

 

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in social work, political science, or related area of study from an accredited college or university required.

 

Work Experience Requirements:

At minimum, 1-2 years’ experience in policy analysis and management, with preference given to work specifically with Florida Statutes and Federal Child Welfare regulations.
