Position Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Position Number: 64028431

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Direct Client Care

This position provides practical nursing services to clients in the Leon County Health Department under the supervision of the licensed clinician and/or registered nurse. Duties include:

  •  Interview, counsel, and obtain histories.
  •  Assist providers with client care, including preparation, procedures, documentation, and follow-up.
  •  Interpret clinician’s orders to clients and give health care instructions under direction on the licensed clinician and/or registered nurse.
  •  Assist clinicians in exam rooms, collect specimens, perform laboratory tests and conduct screening tests.
  •  Administer medication within the scope of practice.
  •  Evaluate immunization status and vaccinate appropriately.
  •  Assist the immunization team with the immunization program, including outreach, special clinics, and documentation requirements. 

Documentation and Follow-up

  •  Perform timely and accurate documentation in the manual/electronic health record.
  •  Monitor and conduct client follow-up for abnormal results in accordance with policies and procedures for programs such as HIV, STI, and Family Planning.
  •  Maintain and submit required clinical and administrative forms (EAR’s, People First, Emergency Response, and Travel). 

Clinic Operations and Equipment

  •  Assist in the maintenance of clinic equipment and provision of a safe and clean environment in the clinic area.
  •  Asist in the maintenance of inventory and stocking of supplies in a fiscally responsible manner. 

Professional Development and Teamwork

  •  Attend in-service, staff meetings, professional education programs to enhance professional/clinical knowledge.
  •  Participate in team-based health care and support other team members to care for clients.
  •  Facilitate the agency mission and goals of the department. 

Other Duties

Perform other duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Basic computer skills, Windows, Outlook, Internet Explorer, Health Management System (HMS), Employee Activity Record (EARS), People First. Knowledge of basic medical terminology, pharmaceutical terminology & calculations, skill in using medical instruments or testing equipment, ability to interview clients and obtain a complete medical history, ability to keep accurate records, follow effectively and establish & maintain effective working relationships.

Licensure as a practical nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464

Salary Range: $38,000 - $42,000
