Job Description
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Office of Community Relations (CRO) is seeking a highly motivated candidate to serve as a Social Media Coordinator to help further the agency’s mission. The Office of Community Relations coordinates the public-communication efforts of FWC’s divisions and offices. These efforts include creating content consisting of text and graphics, photos and video, then posting content on multiple social media platforms. Staff also handles breaking news, safety alerts and public outreach events. The position may include some travel and could attend up to 5 commission meetings per year. CRO coordinates messaging and activities to educate Floridians and visitors of the role and value of Florida's fish and wildlife resources and to foster a sense of stewardship for these resources.
The FWC has an atmosphere of people who are passionate about what they do and have a strong desire to help residents and visitors of Florida while balancing the needs of the state’s fish and wildlife resources. The successful candidate for the Social Media Coordinator position will be proactive and passionate about the agency’s success and the public’s perception of the agency.
This position reports to the Social Media Manager in the Office of Community Relations and will work closely with the Community Relations Director, AV Team Leader, the Creative Services team, and other agency staff as and when needed. The person in this position may need to work outside of standard business hours occasionally and there will be overnight travel when required.
Work at the FWC is cross-functional, meaning duties may cross division/office lines. The Commission expects employees to function across FWC's organizational structure by providing their skills and expertise wherever needed through work on teams or as directed.
Duties and responsibilities:
- This position provides assistance and support for our social media accounts and manager. Courteously assists Commission constituents to resolve questions or problems they may have in matters relating to the Commission, its programs or fish and wildlife conservation. Seeks to garner public support for the agency objectives and programs by serving Florida’s citizens in a positive and proactive manner.
- Lead in collaborating with Public Information Coordinators, division staff, and other staff to write and edit creditable messaging for FWC’s social media platforms.
- Assists Social Media assistant in monitoring FWC’s social media accounts, including but not limited to providing customer service within social platform comment sections.
- Assists Social Media Manager in scheduling and posting social media content for FWC’s social media platforms, such as but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter).
- Provides backup for Social Media Manager during vacation or work travel as required (occasional evenings and weekends as needed).
- Collaborates with creative services team and other agency staff to produce and edit digital media such as videos (both short-form and long-form), photographs, PowerPoint presentations, web images, advertisements, memes/gifs, animations, and other communications tools.
- Candidate should be prepared to be on or off camera to produce content for social media. Available for periodic travel.
- Advertising and marketing background appreciated, digital advertising experience a plus.
- Customer service: Responds to questions from the public via social media direct messages and email.
- Checks and confirms facts, information and photo credits within the agency and with a multitude of external entities as required.
- Actively garner public support for agency objectives and programs by serving Florida’s citizens in a positive and proactive manner.
- Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, strong critical thinking, and the ability to coordinate multiple projects at one time.
- Experienced in using Microsoft 365 apps including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
- Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and complete work assignments and projects according to established deadlines.
- Demonstrates strong administrative and organizational skills and managing tasks with attention to detail and time efficiency.
- Ability to quickly and effectively prioritize and process information and requests from external and internal sources.
- Ability to positively communicate and build relationships with a variety of professionals including staff and vendors.
- Skilled in utilizing social media platforms for business/organization accounts, including (but not limited to) Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, X (formerly Twitter) and Flickr. Must be an experienced visual storyteller. Knowledge of producing Stories/Reels, Canva, and a variety of video and photo editing software with both laptop and phone apps.
- Experience in Adobe Creative Cloud applications including (but not limited to) Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to listen effectively, understand and evaluate information/data.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Experience in creating digital media that complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act Standards.
Desired Minimum Requirements:
- Four (4) years of experience in communication, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or completion of a program of study from a vocational/technical school, or community college in communication, journalism, public relations, or a related field can substitute for the required experience.
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities can substitute for the required experience.
