Duties and Responsibilities

The MS Specialist will report to the HSMV Section Supervisor within the Bureau of Motorist Compliance, Vision section. This position is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, composing, filing, coding, and mailing responses to customers who are required to submit reports of eye examinations to this department, ensuring regulatory compliance with Florida Statutes, Florida Administrative Code, and Department policy and procedures. This position is also authorized to coordinate vision correspondence and telephone inquiries from field offices and the public; is authorized to determine restrictions, revocations and cancellations based on reports and conformity of the law and Medical Advisory Board recommendations based upon independent analysis of statutes, rules, policies, and/or regulations. This position reviews, sorts and distributes incoming reports and correspondence from customers regarding vision related matters. This position processes requests from customers including vision reports, status requests, and requests for driver license applications.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Skill in compiling and composing reports, memos, and other written documents
  • Ability to understand and apply FLHSMV policies and apply state motor vehicle vision laws and statutes.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work assignments
  • Skill in tracking data and/or information and monies using computer programs
  • Skill using a personal computer, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Skill in answering a multi-line phone system
  • Knowledge of reviewing and coding driver records or ability to analyze driver records
  • Skill in proofreading, editing, and verifying data for accuracy
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
  • Skills in problem solving techniques
  • Skill in customer service and/or public relations
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement
  • Knowledge of administrative skills, e.g.: maintaining records, entering data, and filing

 

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with the following:

  • Professional work experience in customer service.
  • Professional work experience using Microsoft Word to compose written correspondence such as letters and memos.

 

General Information

  • The elements of the selection process may include a skill assessment and/or oral interview.
  • Applicants being considered for employment will be required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which will include a check of the criminal history records of the FBI. Fingerprints and associated information/biometrics will be retained in the FBI’s Next Generation Identification (NGI) system and fingerprints may continue to be compared against fingerprints submitted to or retained by NGI.
