Duties and Responsibilities

As a Business Consultant l, you will serve as a liaison between the Department and the Insurance Industry. This position is responsible for communicating with the insurance industry and technical support staff to make certain the insurance company filings in the departmental insurance database and financial reponsibility's automobile personal injury protection and liability insurance case production programs are working properly. You will respond in writing and verbally to complex insurance industry inquiries and resolve issues with Financial Responsibility sanctions. You will also be responsible for independently monitoring, analyzing and updating the Self-insurance program for all self-insurers which includes approving applications from interested parties in accordance with Florida Statutes, 324.161 and 324.171. Additional responsibilities include independently researching laws, policies and procedures to respond to inquiries regarding driver license suspensions, revocations, disqualifications and cancellations for driver improvement and financial responsibility issues.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Florida Statutes governing financial responsibility pursuant to Chapters 322, 324 and 627 of the Florida Statutes and financial responsibility sanctions.
  • Skilled in using DAVID, Motorist Maintenance, DL Maintenance, and FRVIS.
  • Skilled is using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Ability to be tactful in difficult and stressful situations.
  • Skilled in researching, analyzing, and resolving customer inquiries relating to driver license and motor vehicles.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and apply rules, regulations, laws, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to independently organize and handle multiple priorities and assignments.
  • Skill in analyzing situations, determining key issues and developing solutions.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data to develop, revise and make recommendations relating to the improvement of daily operations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to compose letters, emails, newsletters, policies/procedures, and reports.

 

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with the following:

  • Using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook;
  • Reviewing, validating processes, and documenting the results;
  • Researching data and making recommendations based on the analysis; Providing customer service;
  • Using Driver and Vehicle information Database (DAVID), Motorist Maintenance, DL Maintenance and Florida Real-time Vehicle Information System (FRVIS);
  • Performing analytic reviews of proposed legislation and/or policies and procedures;
  • Public relations and communication;
  • Interpreting and implementing laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Preference will also be given to applicants who have a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

 

General Information

  • The elements of the selection process may include a skill assessment and/or oral interview.
  • Applicants being considered for employment will be required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which will include a check of the criminal history records of the FBI. Fingerprints and associated information/biometrics will be retained in the FBI’s Next Generation Identification (NGI) system and fingerprints may continue to be compared against fingerprints submitted to or retained by NGI.
