MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION :

Network Operations & Support

  • Controls the daily operation of computer networks, including LAN-to-LAN and WAN systems.
  • Plans, suggests, and helps with the design of local or distant computer systems.
  • Assesses system performance and makes recommendations.
  • Provides technical assistance and support to users of the LAN, WAN, and Intranet/Internet.
  • Analyzes and troubleshoots network logs and tracks the nature and resolution of problems.
  • Monitors usage to ensure security of data and access privileges.
  • Monitors data to optimize network performance and resolves critical network failures.

Network Procedures & Archiving

  • Develops and implements network support and operational procedures.
  • Maintains existing LAN, internet, DNS, database, and email servers.
  • Develops and maintains archiving procedures.
  • Researches and evaluates new technologies related to computer networking.

Hardware, Software & System Configuration

  • Researches and recommends network hardware and software, including telecommunications methods and protocols.
  • Selects and installs bridges, routers, switches, hubs, and related equipment.
  • Assists in installing, designing, configuring, and maintaining system software.

Disaster Recovery & Documentation

  • Developing disaster recovery strategies.
  • Monitoring compliance with AD policies and standards.
  • Developing documentation and diagrams of the entire DJJ network.

Server & Infrastructure Management

  • Manages agency’s physical and virtual servers in a Windows and Azure environment.
  • Ensures each server has as close to 100% uptime as practicable.
  • Assists in maintaining security of routers and servers from unauthorized intrusion (physical or remote).

 

Active Directory (AD) Management

  • Creating and managing user accounts, assigning passwords, and specifying group memberships.
  • Monitoring compliance with AD policies and standards.
  • Auditing user permissions: Organizing users into groups to easily assign permissions to shared resources.
  • Replicating directory information and making enterprise-level changes to the Active Directory.
  • Monitoring synchronization, replication, and reviewing Domain Controller (DC) event and security logs.

 

Administrative & External Relations

  • Monitors cost estimates for network-related services.
  • Participates in inter-agency work groups relevant to areas of expertise.
  • Conducts regional technical workshops as directed.
  • Serves as a primary contact with networking service providers and customers.
  • Plays a key role in negotiating and developing plans for future services.
  • Keeps abreast of new hardware or software products for system enhancements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of firewalls, VPNs, routers, and networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S).
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for diagnosing network issues, interpreting event logs, and resolving critical failures across LAN, WAN, and cloud-based environments.
  • Proficiency in managing physical and virtual server infrastructure, particularly in Windows Server and Microsoft Azure environments, with a focus on uptime, performance, and security.
  • Ability to design, document, and maintain complex network diagrams and disaster recovery plans, ensuring clarity, continuity, and compliance with organizational standards.
  • Skilled in configuring and maintaining network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, and system software, with a focus on performance optimization and security.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to lead technical workshops, participate in statewide workgroups, and coordinate with service providers and stakeholders.
