Minimum Requirements:

  • Customer Service experience; and
  • Experience with a helpdesk support or desktop support environment; and
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows operating systems; and
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Productivity Software: Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Professional; and
  • Experience with troubleshooting issues within Microsoft Office; and
  • Experience with Microsoft’s Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC); and
  • Experience with troubleshooting computer hardware issues; and
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds on a daily basis; and
  • Ability to climb a ladder and stoop to the floor to install cables; and
  • Completion of a one year program of study from a vocational/technical school in an area of information technology can substitute for one year of the required experience.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The incumbent in this position works in the Help Desk/ Desktop Support Unit of the Division of Technology. Duties include the installation and configuration of various types of computer equipment. The position primarily provides Tier 1 & Tier 2 technical support including logging in and tracking incidents as they are reported and providing analysis and resolution when possible.
  • Resolves Help Desk Tickets. Works assigned tickets in the Help Desk ticket system. Creates new tickets when necessary to report an issue. Assigns created tickets to appropriate resource if known. Resolves ticket issues. Remotely connects to users machines if necessary to resolve issue. Researches proposed solutions or modifications to ensure they do not adversely affect the existing environment. Documents issues and sets the status to “resolved” upon completion. Escalates issue to Tier 3 support if needed. Contacts vendors for warranty repair issues. Answers the Help Desk phones. Troubleshoots issues remotely to achieve 1st call resolution.
  • Administer/Setup/Troubleshoot the agency’s Mobile Devices.
  • Contacts outside software and hardware vendor support sites for resolution of problems via the Internet or telephone, including support for the standard software programs and the deployment of hardware. 
  • Maintains documentation including the following: System and process documentation, Help Desk standard tasks and procedures, support instructions, and Help Desk installations and configuration notes and documentation. 
  • Helps coordinate the distribution of large hardware deployments.
  • Performs other work related duties as required.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to build, maintain and troubleshoot desktop and laptop computers.
  • Ability to work as liaison between customer, vendors and management. 
  • Ability to Implement/install applications through Group Policy and SCCM. 
  • Two-plus years knowledge and troubleshooting experience with Windows Operating Systems in a business environment. 
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot Apple devices. 
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot devices using a mobile device mangement solution. 
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. 
  • Ability to maintain yearly certifications for warranty work. 
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift minimum of 50 pounds, climb a ladder and stoop to the floor to install cables.
