THE WORK YOU WILL DO

This is professional work supporting the offices of the Florida Legislature and their employees with performing a variety of accounting duties and responsibilities. There is a particular focus on reviewing and processing Travel reimbursements and P-Card charges.

 

OUR ORGANIZATION
The Office of Legislative Services provides centralized administrative, management and support services to the Florida Senate, House of Representatives and other legislative offices. This position reports to the Accounting Program Manager in the Office of Finance and Accounting.  

 

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

  • Performs audits and processes travel reimbursement and travel vouchers
  • Reviews and processes contract payments and other expenditures for several legislative entities
  • Plans workloads, workflows, deadlines, work objectives, and time utilization with employees.
  • Answers inquiries and provides technical assistance to Legislators and employees on accounting matters.
  • Performs audits and processes payments for contracts, purchase orders, invoices, travel vouchers, and other documents.
  • Ensures the smooth and timely processing of vouchers, invoices, and purchase orders submitted for payment.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of accounting records.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret accounting data.
  • Ability to understand and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to an accounting program.
  • Ability to work independently. 
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions.
  • Ability to use tact and exercise good judgement when interacting with Legislators and staff, other agencies, and the public.
  • Ability and desire to provide excellent customer support.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting and three years of professional accounting or auditing experience; or a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or possession of a Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.) Certificate can substitute for one year of the required experience.

Professional or nonprofessional accounting or auditing experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required bachelor’s degree; or any combination of this experience and up to 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college education including two courses in accounting can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required bachelor’s degree.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of State of Florida travel laws/rules
  • Knowledge of FLAIR / PALM

 

SALARY RANGE

Commensurate with experience
