ADVERTISING TITLE: OPERATIONS & MANAGEMENT CONSULTANT MANAGER

This open state advertisement is for a SES (Selected Exempt Service) position located at Central Office in Inmate Appeals.

The purpose of the Operations and Management Consultant Manager is to oversee and manage the inmate grievance process, ensure compliance with relevant rules and policies, support institutional staff in resolving inmate issues, supervise grievance-related personnel, and facilitate effective communication and training to promote fair and efficient grievance resolution.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Manages inmate grievance cases, including protective management and admissible reading materials, and handles related correspondence and inquiries.
  • Gathers information to prepare grievance responses and helps wardens and staff resolve inmate issues and support rehabilitation efforts.
  • Supervises clerical staff and regional grievance coordinators, ensuring grievance procedures are followed, training is provided, and appeals are processed on time.
  • Monitors institutional compliance with grievance rules, review reports to spot trends, and takes part in operational reviews and complaint resolution teams.
  • Keeps updated on relevant rules and policies, suggests improvements, provides staff training, and coordinates documentation requests from outside agencies.

REQUIREMENTS:

Please note, when submitting a college/university degree, if selected for this position official transcripts will be required.

  • Must possess at least 5 years’ experience handling inmate grievances.
  • Must possess at least 5 years' working inside a correctional institution.
  • Must possess at least 5 years’ experience working at a professional level in security, classification, sentence structure or inmate grievances.

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
