DESCRIPTION

  • This is a highly responsible position requiring knowledge of the Florida Statues and Federal Child Welfare regulations. The incumbent must be able to work independently with mutliple entities within the Department to collect, analyze, and consicely produce various work products for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare legislative budget requests based on input from field, program office staff and leadership and work with Budget staff to finalize documents for the legislative budget process.
  • Prepare substantive legislative policy proposals, bill analysis and bill language with input from field, program office staff and leadership.
  • Ensure timely processing of analysis of legislative bills as filed during legislative session.
  • Track progress of bills and amendments, prepare updates for Child and Family Well-Being staff and complete end of session overview of bills of interest.
  • Prepare presentations for Committee meetings and packets for Child and Family Well-Being Leadership for both Federal and State meetings.
  • Coordinate and ensure the timely completion of various federal reports.
  • Research and coordinate responses to requests from Legislators and Committee Staff regarding child welfare questions.
  • Ensure timely preparation and processing of all Legislatively Mandated Reports that fall under Child and Family Well-Being's purview. 

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Ensure timely processing of analysis of legislative bills as filed during legislative session.
  • Read, understand, apply complicated and detailed regulations, and legislative and policy directives.
  • Track progress of bills and amendments, prepare updates for Child and Family Well-Being staff and complete end of session overview of bills of interest.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and accurate records and reports.

 

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in social work, political science, or related area of study from an accredited college or university required.

 

Work Experience Requirements:

At minimum, 1-2 years’ experience in bill and policy analysis and management, with preference given to work specifically with Florida Statutes and Federal Child Welfare regulations.

 

Software Proficiency:

Microsoft Office suite of programs
