Overview:

 

The Florida Gaming Control Commission is responsible for exercising all regulatory and executive powers of the state with respect to legal gaming, including pari-mutuel wagering, cardrooms, slot machine facilities, oversight of gaming compacts, and other forms of gambling authorized by state law, excluding the Lottery, as well as directly enforcing Florida’s gaming laws and combatting illegal gambling activities.

 

The agency is overseen by five Commissioners who are appointed by the Governor, with Commissioners appointing an Executive Director who leads a team of nearly 200 staff members. The mission of the Florida Gaming Control Commission is to preserve and protect the integrity of gaming activities through fair regulation, licensing, effective criminal investigation, and enforcement.

General Information:

The working hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Good attendance is essential for any individual in this position, as the work involved occurs daily and is time sensitive. The individual in this position is expected to report to work daily and on time. Leave must be requested in advance except in emergency circumstances not under the control of the employee.

 

 

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and processes occupational license applications related to gaming activities regulated by FGCC.

  • Takes appropriate action in the licensing database to facilitate the issuance of a license for eligible applicants.

  • Identifies deficient applications and notifies applicant of the errors and/or omissions within 30 days. 

  • Creates checklists to ensure all requirements have been met. 

  • Retrieves criminal history reports from the FDLE website; matches the criminal history with the application and determines whether further documentation is required from the applicant.  

  • Answers public inquiries regarding pari-mutuel, cardroom, and slot machine occupational licensing laws, rules and/or policies and procedures. 

  • Responds to customer inquiries via email, telephone, OnBase Escalation, and Smart Sheet Correspondence process.

  • Assists with scanning fingerprint cards for electronic submission to FDLE and retrieving fingerprint results on an as-needed basis. 

  • Assists with scanning and indexing documents into OnBase, the Commission's imaging system.

  • Answers questions from the field staff and the public regarding pari-mutuel, cardroom, and slot machine occupational licensing laws, rules and/or policies and procedures.

  • Performs special projects and other duties assigned by the Licensing Administrator or the Chief of Operations.


 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have computer skills to effectively utilize Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and internet browser software programs and competency in the operation of standard desktop computers, printers, and optical scanners.

  • Aptitude to develop, absorb, and retain general knowledge of gaming operations.

  • Must have skills and knowledge of general office methods and procedures, filing, telephone techniques, and office equipment, as well as English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

  • Must have the ability to work in a team environment, as well as a strong work ethic and self-motivation to work independently.

 

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of administrative or clerical experience in an office setting; or
  • An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university and one year of administrative or clerical experience in an office setting.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience processing occupational license applications.

  • Experience scanning and indexing electronic documents into workflow queues.

  • Fluency in both English and Spanish.

  • Experience in Versa Regulation and OnBase.
