Your Specific Responsibilities:

 

The incumbent's primary responsibility is to perform reception and support duties relating to the processing of Social Security disability claims. This position requires the incumbent have excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Though not a requirement, preference may be given to applicants with bilingual abilities in both English and Spanish languages.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Receives phone calls from claimants, appointed representatives, SSA employees, etc. 
  • Utilizes SSA and DDD web-based applications to identify basic case information, answer general questions, and route calls as appropriate. This requires a broad knowledge of the division’s organizational structure and the SSA Disability process.  
  • The selected candidate will perform additional receptionist duties, including greeting visitors, verifying credentials, maintaining sign in/sign out logs, receiving packages and routing packages to appropriate destinations.  
  • The incumbent reviews unassociated paper and electronic documents and scans/uploads to the correct destination. 
  • Also reviews, sorts and prepares batch overnight correspondence for mailing. 
  • The primary duties require a courteous demeanor when interacting with claimants, their representatives, general public, and coworkers. 

  

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication.
  • Basic knowledge of the Social Security Administration (SSA) Disability program and process (training provided).
  • Basic knowledge of the SSA case processing system, and the ability to generate case notes, update basic case information, generate correspondence, certify invoices for payment, scheduling consultative examinations, etc. (training provided).  
  • Ability to effectively use a multi-line phone system.  
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate general office automation equipment, i.e., personal computer, fax, copier, printer, scanner, etc.
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office and other web-based applications.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize workloads.  
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to independently identify errors or problems and notify appropriate staff. 

Qualifications:

 

We are looking for an individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
