POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is in the Firearm Eligibility Bureau’s Firearm Purchase Program, this position is responsible for the review and advanced analysis of criminal history records to determine eligibility for the purchase and possession of firearms as authorized by Florida Statute. This position is also responsible for training internal and external customers, critical review of transactions for discrepancies, and quality control of transaction evaluations. This independent work assists management in the coordination of assignments that are complex in nature and very broad in objective with the integration of diverse functions. The duties require independent planning of objectives and priorities, which may result in analysis and recommendation of changes in policies, rules, and regulations. This position must meet and maintain National Crime Information Center/Florida Crime Information Center (NCIC/FCIC) certification as required, and it is responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of data housed within department databases.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  • Entering potential firearm buyer’s information received by the Avaya phone system accurately into FES in accordance with Firearm Purchase Program (FPP) evaluator training manual;
  • Evaluating requests by reviewing customer demographics in FES in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner and processes transactions in accordance with the FPP evaluator training manual;
  • Evaluating requests by analyzing criminal justice information in FES in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner and processes transactions in accordance with the Firearm Purchase Program (FPP) evaluator training manual;
  • Consulting with management to resolve difficult, unusual, or questionable transactions or as required by policy and procedure;
  • Submitting transactions requiring research through Computerized Criminal History (CCH) workflow;
  • Answering customer service lines to provide assistance to firearm dealers and citizens in a professional, courteous, and calm manner at all times;
  • Acting as a liaison between the department and criminal justice or non-criminal justice agencies when immediate action is necessary and makes proper notations and notifications in accordance with Firearm Purchase evaluator training manual; and
  • Preparing and updating written reports, charts, letters, memoranda, procedural manuals, and other documentation in accordance with Department/other guidelines.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position;
  • Knowledge of criminal justice information systems;
  • Knowledge of the FCIC/NCIC, III, CCH and NICS information systems;
  • Knowledge of personal computer office software;
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to read and interpret law enforcement data;
  • Ability to read and interpret Florida Statutes, Commission Rules, and Divisional Policy and Procedures;
  • Ability to use reference material and internet resources to perform research;
  • Ability to train others in performing tasks for inputting, querying and responding to informational requests regarding FCIC/CCH system;
  • Ability to use problem solving techniques;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
  • Ability to read and interpret law enforcement data and manuals;
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; and
  • Ability to sort data alphabetically, numerically, and categorically.

 

BASE SALARY:

  • $43,775.00

BACKGROUND:

FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants.
