What You Will Do:

  • Conduct Safety & Risk Activities – Perform day-to-day safety and risk management tasks to support protection of staff, customers, facilities, and continuity of operations.
  • Execute Emergency Management Functions – Carry out assigned responsibilities as Agency Safety Coordinator and/or Emergency Coordinating Officer (or alternate), supporting preparedness, response, and recovery activities.
  • Maintain Policies & Plans – Develop, update, and maintain emergency management, safety, and business continuity policies, procedures, and plans in accordance with statutes and guidelines.
  • Coordinate Training & Exercises – Organize and deliver safety and emergency management training, drills, and exercises to ensure staff readiness and compliance.
  • Perform Incident Reviews & Follow-Up – Review and investigate incidents, document findings, and implement or track corrective actions to improve safety outcomes.
  • Support Coordination & Reporting Efforts – Work with internal and external stakeholders to gather information, ensure alignment, and prepare reports and documentation.

  Specific duties and responsibilities of this position are as follows:

  • Ensures the Department adheres to the goals of protecting health and safety of staff and customers; securing and protecting facilities and equipment from loss; maintaining continuity of business operations; and always providing necessary services to the public.
  • Serves as the Agency Safety Coordinator or Alternate, per the requirements of Chapter 284, Florida Statutes.
  • Develops, coordinates and maintains policies and procedures related to emergency management and safety for the Department.
  • Serves as the Agency Emergency Coordinating Officer or Alternate, per the requirements of Chapter 252, Florida Statutes.
  • Develops, disseminates and coordinates emergency management and safety training statewide.
  • Promotes safety programs and provides materials to educate staff on maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Reviews and investigates incidents and makes recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Serves as liaison with other agencies to coordinate safety and emergency management requirements.
  • Coordinates update and review of agency emergency plans and business continuity plan to ensure the Department’s ability to provide critical business functions during and after any type of emergency situation.
  • Coordinates tests and exercises of agency emergency response capabilities and safety requirements.

Normal hours for this position will be 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday excluding state holidays. Incumbent may be required to work a longer shift or a modified schedule for special projects or emergency situations with occasional travel.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years General Services related work experience, and two years of real estate experience and a high school diploma or its equivalent. Advanced education from an accredited university or college in a related field can substitute on a year-to-year basis of the required work experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of basic management principles and practices.  Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations, solve problems, document work flow and other activities relating to the improvement of operational and management practices. Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents and other written materials. Ability to work independently. Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to operational and management analysis activities.  Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.  Ability to communicate effectively.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
