The Reemployment Assistance Appeals Commission, also referred to as RAAC or the Commission, is the quasi-judicial administrative appellate body responsible for reviewing contested decisions of FloridaCommerce reemployment assistance appeals referees. The Commission is comprised of a Chairman and two Commissioners, each appointed by the Governor, and confirmed by the Senate, and is 100% federally funded. The Commission is housed within the FloridaCommerce, however, it operates as an independent review body.

The Work You Will Do:

This is a highly responsible position in the Reemployment Assistance Appeals Commission.  As an OPS Commission Deputy Clerk II, you will assist in the Clerk’s Unit with data entry, customer service functions, setting up new appeals (“docketing”), issuing orders, and processing correspondence.  You must be capable of exercising a high degree of independent judgment and discretion in performing these duties.

Pay:  $19.25 Hourly

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • Review appeal case documents and enter data into the Commission’s database.

 

  • Assist with customer service functions, which include answering the Commission’s main telephone line and independently providing responses to general questions regarding policies and procedures involved in the Commission's appellate work, provide status updates of cases pending before the Commission, and routing calls appropriately if a phone call requires a response from the legal staff or court unit. 

 

  • Receive visitors and assist the Executive Assistant and Commission Clerk with office management by ensuring all visitors sign into the visitor log and are identified appropriately, inform management of any scheduled maintenance or visits, and prepare conference room for meetings and events.
  • Receive and process incoming documents (including mail, internet appeals, and faxes) for the Commission. Ensure that the receiving date of incoming mail (including faxes) is accurate and that all mail and faxes are routed immediately for handling by the appropriate section. Maintain applicable incoming document and workload logs.  

 

  • Assist delivery personnel regarding items being delivered or picked up and provide information regarding maintenance issues for repair personnel.  Notify the Administrative Assistant Ill (purchasing agent for the Commission) and other appropriate personnel when shipments are received.

 

  • Assist attorneys, court clerks, and deputy clerks with mailing outgoing correspondence, orders, letters, records, and other filings.

 

  • Assist Docketing Clerks and Correspondence Clerk by performing introductory research to accurately route incoming appeals or other requests and provide initial responses to appellant’s requests. Provide clerical support related to researching appeals, and routing correspondence for review by the Chief Commission Deputy Clerk and Commission Clerk.

 

  • Perform other similar duties as assigned.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to accurately read, evaluate, analyze, and enter data.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar usage.

  • Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality in handling matters before the Commission.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro or similar software.
  • Ability to proofread for accuracy.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently.

Qualifications:

As a condition of pre-employment eligibility, a Level 2 security background screening is required, which consists of fingerprinting and a check of local, state, and national law enforcement records. 

Minimum:

  • Duties and responsibilities of this position must be performed at the official work site of the Commission.
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and two years of office work experience, clerical experience, customer service experience, or similar experience. College education can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for each year of the required work experience.
