POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is part of the team staffing the 24 hour/7 days a week Intelligence Watch & Warning section within the Office of Statewide Intelligence. This is a full-time, essential service position working closely with other crime intelligence analysts and supervisors to provide tactical analytical assistance for criminal investigations and intelligence notifications to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), other state fusion centers, and federal, state, local, tribal and territorial government agencies. This position is responsible for answering phones, creating and disseminating correspondence, conducting facial recognition analysis, monitoring security cameras, researching and triaging information for domestic security incidents, handling urgent threat to life notifications from INTERPOL, and analyzing suspicious activity reports, including human trafficking and domestic terrorism tips received through the See Something, Say Something initiative. Members in this position also assess school threat tips submitted through the FortifyFL app. As an essential member, response during any and all natural or man-made disasters may be required, to include extended shifts or overnight stays. This position requires excellent customer service, multi-tasking, time management, and decision-making skills.

 

SPECIAL NOTES:

This position requires rotating shifts including nights, weekends and holidays. Members assigned to this unit receive critical pay and shift differential pay as determined by FDLE’s pay policy. This position requires contact with the public and other law enforcement entities. Applicants should possess excellent multi-tasking skills. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  • Compiling, analyzing, and disseminating information and intelligence from various agencies, the public, and other sources, and promoting these sources to maintain the exchange of pertinent information among law enforcement agencies;
  • Requesting, receiving and documenting information of a confidential nature;
  • Coordinating inter-state and intra-state information and intelligence pertaining to criminal activity and criminal movement, and exercising independent judgment to ensure accurate and reliable information is disseminated to the proper authorities;
  • Reviewing material of a graphic violence or sexual nature as needed;
  • Monitoring multiple security cameras, building door swipes, and alarm notifications;
  • Providing tactical analytical assistance for criminal investigations, including but not limited to driver’s license photos, criminal histories, facial recognition, court documents, and vehicle registrations; and
  • Applying legal issues surrounding the analytic process including privacy, confidentiality, civil rights, and civil liberties protections within the intelligence cycle and products.

 

To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. Experience in criminal intelligence, military intelligence, national or homeland security intelligence, crime analysis, or in a law enforcement agency can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
  3. Any combination of education or experience, as described above.
  4. Completion of a 720-hour program of study from a vocational/technical school or accredited community college in law enforcement can substitute for one year of the required education.

Note: 30 semester hours, or equivalent, of coursework from an accredited college or university is equivalent to one year of experience.

BASE SALARY:

Crime Intelligence Analyst I

$19.24/hour – Bachelor’s degree*

Crime Intelligence Analyst II         

$20.67/hour – Bachelor’s degree* and one year of analytical** experience.

Senior Crime Intelligence Analyst I

$21.63/hour – Bachelor’s degree* and three years of analytical** experience.

Senior Crime Intelligence Analyst II

$25.96/hour – Bachelor’s degree* and five years of analytical** experience.

 

Note: *A master’s degree in criminology, law enforcement intelligence analysis, national or homeland security intelligence, crime analysis or comparable discipline; or a professional certificate in one of these disciplines can substitute for one year of experience.

 

**Analytical experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year- for-year basis. Analytical experience must be in the fields of: criminal intelligence, military intelligence, crime analysis or investigative experience in a law enforcement agency.

 

SPECIAL NOTES:

  • Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating strong skills in critical thinking; analytical research and interpretation; developing and delivering presentations and training to internal FDLE members, as well as, other law enforcement agencies throughout Florida. Applicants should possess excellent multi-tasking skills.
  • These positions are designated as essential service positions. During a critical incident or disaster (both natural and man-made), you may be required to work after normal business hours, during office closures, or during weekends and/or holidays when needed, including extended or overnight shifts.
  • These Crime Intelligence Analyst positions are included in FDLE’s Crime Intelligence Analyst Progression Plan. BACKGROUND:

FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants. Salary for these positions will be commesurate with experience and training but are typically filled at the minimum of the class pay range unless otherwise dictated by FDLE's pay policy guidelines.  Preference will be given to current FDLE members who have satisfactorily completed at least six months of the probationary period for their current position.
