WHAT IS AN FWC CALL-TAKER?

 

An OPS Call Taker, functions as a support position to our radio-dispatch personnel. The position is up to 40 hours per week and offers a flexible work schedule that may include nights, weekends, or holidays. Call-Takers receive, process and disseminate emergency and non-emergency information to/from citizens, general public, police agencies, fire departments, EMS services, etc.

 

Tasks performed by the Call-Taker include but are not limited to:

 

  • Soliciting pertinent information while utilizing standard protocols, e.g., location, phone number, type of routine or emergency incident from caller and then forward call to appropriate dispatch personnel.
  • Updating computer aided dispatch (CAD) system throughout phone call following departmental protocols.
  • Relaying calls to dispatchers regarding emergency services needed which may require notifying EMS, partnering law enforcement, fire, or other first responders.
  • Utilizing CAD system in tracking first responders, gathering pertinent and accurate information for relaying to appropriate emergency personnel.
  • Monitoring radio communications for documentation updates throughout the emergency.
  • Perform miscellaneous clerical duties as needed.

NOTICE:

Applicants, including qualified veterans seeking veteran's preference: Due to FDLE CJIS security requirements regarding FCIC/NCIC access, candidates/veterans selected for consideration must successfully pass a preliminary level-1 background check prior to participating in the required Public-Safety Dispatcher/Call Taker Pre-employment testing. Applicants that pass the pre-determined test scoring criteria will be invited to participate in a verbal assessment and interview.   

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  1. Must be willing to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  2. Must be willing to be called in to work during staff shortages, special details or emergency situations and be onsite within the hour.
  3. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  4. Type a minimum of 35 correct words per minute.
  5. Employee must obtain CJIS certification within first six months of employment. 
  6. Pass a level 2 background check.
