Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a technical position, responsible for supporting the Bureau of Environmental Public Health (BEPH) Preparedness Program.

Maintains a working knowledge of Bureau of Environmental Public Health (BEPH) and the Bureau of Preparedness and Response (BPR), along with tools and resources that support preparedness and response activities. Collects, manages, updates, and archives program operational data including toolkits, brochures, presentations, reports, raw data, press releases, and strategic planning documents. Works with subject matter experts in the BEPH and BPR to identify opportunities to build and improve solutions that support environmental health preparedness and response decision making, situational awareness, and data management and sharing.

Develops and assists in coordination and implementation of plans, procedures, and strategies for response, recovery, and mitigation functions dealing with natural or man-made disasters as needed. Prepares and provides input on collaborative program planning documents such as emergency plans, standard operating guidelines, and preparedness tools through coordination and maintenance of effective working relationships between BEPH leadership, county health departments, and local, state, and federal government. Assists BEPH leadership with guidelines, exercises, preparedness tools, and measures of functional emergency preparedness and environmental health, in accordance with state and federal guidelines.

Assists in the development and presentation of awareness and public information programs and curricula for county partners, divisions, preparedness partners, civic groups, clubs, and in public schools regarding disaster preparedness and related subjects. Assists in the design, coordination, presentation, and evaluation of disaster exercises involving local or multi-county response.

Assists in the development and tracking of the program strategic direction by assembling information and identifying and communicating potential risks as assigned. Establishes resource, time, and scope requirements for current and planned activities. Conducts, facilitates, documents, tracks, and reports on the status of program projects.

Prepares reports and performs analysis as requested. Prepares responses to inquiries, reports, and related correspondence.

Provides logistical input, identifies needs for additional resources, and provides assistance to the program lead before, during, and following an incident or event.  Assists with preparation of site visitations to emergency areas to liaison and assist with the preparation of plans, exercises, conferences and other programs as needed. Performs environmental health emergency assessments and other post disaster functions, as requested, or as needed.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of curriculum development and implementation of training programs. Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of computer analysis. Ability to effectively develop and implement training programs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Has knowledge and skills in computer programs such as MS Word, Excel; Outlook. Demonstrates strong communication, writing, and interpersonal skills to enable collaboration with a various staff members and partners. Ability to effectively work between bureaus, divisions, agencies, and with universities and communities. Ability to work independently. Ability to travel as needed. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to present in front of any size audience with any skill level.

 

Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver License

Preferred:

  • A bachelor's degree (BS) from a college or university and/or professional experience in planning, evaluation, research, analysis, business, government, social, health or rehabilitative services or fiscal work.
  • Four years of preparedness planning experience and been part of a response. Planning includes plan development/updating, exercise development/evaluating and after-action reports.
