The Work You Will Do:

OPS Environmental Specialist III (37978061) OUTDOOR RECREATION SPECIALIST

OGT, within the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Recreation and Parks, provides leadership and coordination to establish and expand the Florida Greenways and Trails System (FGTS). The overall goals of this position are to advance the FGTS Plan goals, objectives, and strategies; communicate the economic, health, transportation, outdoor recreation, and conservation benefits of the FGTS. This position will schedule up to 24 hours per week.

The Division of Recreation and Parks provides resource-based recreation while preserving, interpreting and restoring natural and cultural resources. The Office of Greenways and Trails (OGT), within the division, is responsible for planning and implementing the Florida Greenways and Trails System, as well as appraising the recreation needs of the state, providing information to the public relating to outdoor recreation and providing education on the benefits of outdoor recreation.

Pay:

$20.00 per hour  

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position helps to implement the FGTS Plan and promote Outdoor Recreation.

  • Coordinate and facilitate the Outdoor Florida Webinar series.
  • Conduct research pertaining to outdoor recreation and trends.
  • Develop informational and promotional materials.
  • Assist with outreach and education presentations.
  • Write and edit information for mixed media (newsletter, social, web, etc.).
  • Edit and update website.
  • Provide technical assistance and information to communities, organizations, developers, and others that are planning and establishing trails and greenways.
  • Assist with the coordination of meetings, workshops, and events.
  • Represent the Office, Division and Department at meetings, workshops, and conferences, as required.
  • Paddling trails coordination
  • Carries out special assignments and performs related duties as assigned.
  • Travel may be required.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of: administrative and office principles, procedures and practices; methods of data collection; principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communications. Skills in: must be proficient in Microsoft suite applications; public speaking, writing, and program presentation. Ability to: collect, evaluate, analyze and interpret data; prepare reports; understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to recreational programs; communicate and interact with the public in a tactful and courteous manner; work independently; plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments; proficiently use computer software applications, particularly Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; safely operate a state vehicle; maintain a valid driver’s license; travel.
