Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a highly professional position within the STD Section. This position will serve as a dedicated enhanced gonorrhea interviewer for the STD Surveillance Network (SSuN) grant. This position is responsible for keeping daily track of their randomly assigned gonorrhea cases, attempting to contact each patient multiple times as necessary, and conducting in-depth interviews with patients who agree to participate. They will document each activity conducted with date and time in Florida’s STD Surveillance System (STARS). The individual will require excellent customer service, organizational, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal relationship skills. The incumbent in this position requires minimal supervision and makes independent decisions in providing direct disease and public health awareness intervention activities to CHD STD Prevention and Control Programs. This position is a full-time, in office position housed at the Florida Department of Health in Tallahassee, FL but is a statewide regional position. Since job duties require the employee to be in the office, teleworking is not an option.
Conduct enhanced gonorrhea case interviews by following a set of guidelines, a list of questions, and appropriate answers developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). These include questions about patient demographics, symptoms, PrEP use, and risk factor identification.
Input all gathered information into Florida’s Surveillance Tools and Reporting System (STARS) in an accurate and timely manner daily.
Fax forms to physician of record for in-depth provider follow-up for the gonorrhea cases randomly assigned for the enhanced interview. These forms have a list of questions and appropriate answers developed by the CDC, which include questions about exam findings and other screenings/testing provided. Provider responses will be input into Florida’s Surveillance Tools and Reporting System (STARS).
Conduct record searches using available resources, such as: HMS, STARS, DMV, Florida SHOTS, Accurint, Medicaid, Jail, white pages, Spokeo, medi.net, etc. for obtaining patient contact information with the purpose of conducting the SSuN interview. Participates in all mandatory trainings/meetings.
Checks emails and phone messages regularly. Performs other duties not considered routine to support the mission of the STD program, Department, and agency.
May be required to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in Special Needs Shelters, or to perform other emergency duties including but not limited to responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, manmade or natural.
