Position Overview and Responsibilities:

OPS Government Operations Consultant II (Interpretive Specialist – Project Management) (37971064)

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is seeking a well-organized individual with the ability to effectively work well with others as a project manager for interpretive projects to serve the needs of the Division of Recreation and Parks (Florida State Parks). Florida State Parks span the entire state with 175 state parks and trails. This position is part of the team charged with connecting visitors with natural and cultural resources in parks. This position may be scheduled up to 40 hours per week.

  • Support the Interpretive Services section of the Bureau of Operational Services by coordinating the design, procurement, fabrication, installation and evaluation of park interpretive projects.
  • Plan and manage workflows for inclusive, theme-based nonpersonal interpretive content including exhibits, signs, print materials and digital media. Ensuring clear goals, ongoing direction and timely delivery for enhanced and inspiring visitor experiences.
  • Lead projects from concept to completion through effective collaboration with parks, agencies, partners, and users during the research, content development, production, distribution and evaluation stages.
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of successful nonpersonal interpretive programs and resources.
  • Create and deliver training and tools to support field staff in interpretive efforts.
  • Ensure interpretive media is accessible and engaging for diverse audiences by coordinating content and analyzing visitor data.
  • Assess project effectiveness and program needs to strengthen visitor engagement and meet strategic goals.
  • Prepare materials and presentations to guide interpretive planning and support staff and partners.
  • Travel statewide for meetings, trainings, site visits and project coordination.
  • Assist with program operations and support other bureau functions as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Provide proof of Certified Interpretive Planner, Certified Interpretive Guide and Certified Interpretive Trainer courses from the National Association for Interpretation
  • Demonstrate personal experience with developing themed interpretive materials for target audiences
  • Demonstrate personal experience with successfully interpreting Florida’s natural and cultural resources
  • Verify the ability to manage state procurement contracts 

 

Pay:

$18.00 - $24.00 per hour (commensurate with experience)
