The Work You Will Do:

The Bureau of Community Planning and Growth is seeking a skilled and creative (Part-Time) OPS Government Operation Consultant III (GIS Analyst) to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to support planning and development projects, with a focus on creating interactive and engaging map experiences.  This is a temporary OPS position scheduled duration is approximately 6 to12 months, up to 29hrs per week.  Benefits are not available for this part-time position.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

This (OPS) Government Operation Consultant III (GIS Analyst) position will be responsible for utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to support planning and development projects, with a focus on creating interactive and engaging map experiences.  

  • Collect, manage, and analyze spatial data from multiple sources.
  • Create and update maps, visualizations, and interactive map experiences using GIS software.
  • Develop user-friendly web-based mapping tools and applications to enhance engagement with geographic data.
  • Perform spatial analyses, such as buffering, overlay, and proximity analysis.
  • Assist in the development of GIS-based models for planning and development projects.
  • Support data integration and interoperability between GIS and other systems.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to team members and stakeholders.
  • Ensure the accuracy and quality of GIS data and outputs.
  • Prepare and present GIS data and analysis results in reports, presentations, and meetings.
  • Stay updated with GIS technologies, techniques, and best practices, particularly for enhancing map experiences.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

    • Proficiency with GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar), including creating interactive map experiences.
    • Experience with spatial data management, analysis, and visualization.
    • Familiarity with databases, data visualization, and cartography.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical audiences.
    • Experience with Python, JavaScript, or other web development/scripting languages (preferred but not required).
    • Knowledge of web-based mapping applications (ArcGIS Online, Leaflet, etc.) and remote sensing (preferred but not required).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, or a related field.

 

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
