Job Summary-Health Support Tech: The successful incumbent will work at the front desk and provide general reception and clerical support to the Children’s Medical Services Managed Care Plan Tallahassee Area Office. This position involves regular contact with a diverse populations both in person and over the phone and will require working with sensitive and confidential information. The incumbent needs to possess excellent communication and organizational skills and have the ability to operate and/or quickly learn current technologies.


Performs the following functions:

  • Open and close lobby/reception area
  • Organize and maintain lobby/reception area
  • Answer telephone and provides responses to internal and external clients
  • Process incoming mail
  • Read and respond to email daily
  • Complete clinic check-in process. Use current database to input and update client demographics
  • Scan and index documentation into the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Schedule, reschedule and cancel patient appointments
  • Confirm upcoming clinic appointments
  • Verify insurance and confirm eligibility
  • Complete pre and post clinic duties including printing clinic roster, printing consent forms, billing encounter forms and collection of provider sign-in sheets
  • Update clinic templates
  • Fax clinic provider transcription
  • Perform equipment and supply checks
  • Assist with preparation and cleaning of exam rooms, on an as needed basis
  • Assist with providing clinical services, on an as needed basis, which include but is not limited to: height/weight, blood pressure, urine analysis, A1C and EKG.
  • Function as a member of the emergency response team and meets all requirements such as Basic Life Support certification
  • Use various office equipment including telephone, fax, scanner and copy machine
  • Maintain prescription log and distribute prescriptions to authorized parent/guardian/client with appropriate identification
  • Assist Nursing Supervisor with clinic projects


Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 2 years’ experience working in a medical office setting
  • At least 2 years of computer experience

At least 2 years’ experience in a customer service position


Other Desirable Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • BLS Certification


Other Related Duties as Assigned

  • Perform other duties as required
  • Attends staff meetings as required
  • Attends trainings for personal and professional growth
  • Completes annual DOH training requirements
