Following a planned orientation to the Leon County Health Department and to community resources and community agencies, the OPS REGISTERED NURSE will function in all clinical nursing programs. Primary emphasis is placed on COVID-19 immunization and prevention of disease with the provision of public health principles applied and related to communicable disease (HIV testing), sexually transmitted diseases and epidemiological cases), maternal care, family planning, school health services, chronic disease, epidemiological and other related programs. Work is performed under the guidance and supervision of the Nursing Program Specialist.

Clinical Activities:

Demonstrates special nursing techniques and teaches the purpose, use, care, and results of utilizing such care in the treatment of the clinic patient presenting with various diseases in the clinical setting. Documents appropriately all medication administered and observes patient for adverse conditions.

Interview and counsel patients on specific needs and provides education for health promotion.

Assists practitioners in clinic periodically, maintaining records of treatment rendered, and relates practitioner's orders and recommendations to patients, rendering follow-up service to secure recommended corrections.

Provides continuity of care for patients receiving services using unit's procedures and protocols.

Maintains drug and vaccine inventories for clinic. Performs monthly vaccine inventory reports and may need to perform weekly inventory assessment to maintain 95%+ accuracy.

Conducts individual or group demonstrations and/or classes on public health programs and community health problems.

Other:

Assists in the basic analysis of health reports and statistical information relevant to family planning services.

Assists in planning and participates in continuing education and in-service programs and keeps up to date with current literature to enhance personal and professional growth and development.

Serves as staff advisor with the teaching experience of nursing students and new staff nurses and offer non-professional personnel.

Serves as liaison between the nursing staff, physicians, and the clinic supervisor in coordinating clinic activities. Assists with

maintaining clinic now and patient concerns and/or problems, and in the absence of the Clinic Supervisor.

Performs related work assigned by Nursing Program Specialist.

In-Service/Staff Development: Participate in In-service and staff development programs related to job performance.
